Audrey Lee, a senior at Texas A&M University, secured a decisive victory in the Republican primary for Fort Bend County District Clerk, defeating 67-year-old opponent John Minchew by a commanding 10-point margin.
Now, she heads into a high-stakes general election against Democrat incumbent Beverly Walker in one of Texas’ most competitive counties.
From Campus Activist to Republican Nominee
Just a year ago, Audrey Lee wasn’t planning to run for office.
Like many in her generation, her focus was on school, activism, and organizing on campus. As a leader within Young Americans for Liberty at Texas A&M, she was already working to advance the principles of liberty among her peers.
But a defining moment changed everything.
After helping organize a large-scale campus vigil that drew thousands, Lee began to feel a deeper responsibility to step up.
“I started thinking that I needed to do more than just talk,” she said.
Encouraged by local activists and after prayerful consideration, Lee made the decision to run and quickly built momentum.
Defying Expectations
Running against an opponent nearly 50 years older, many expected experience to carry the day. Instead, voters chose energy, competence, and a fresh perspective.
Her 10-point primary win shows that voters are increasingly open to younger candidates, especially those who can clearly articulate a vision and demonstrate real-world leadership.
And Lee isn’t shying away from the elephant in the room.
At 19, she knows voters will question her age.
But she counters with experience, having held leadership and managerial roles since her mid-teens, and a business education from one of the top public programs in the country.
More importantly, she understands something many candidates miss. Voters don’t just want experience. They want results.
A True Toss-Up in November
The general election will be a different challenge altogether.
Fort Bend County is a true swing county, and Lee now faces Democrat incumbent Beverly Walker in what is shaping up to be a razor-thin race.
At this stage, the contest looks like a 50/50 battle.
That means turnout, and especially youth engagement, could decide the outcome.
Lee has already signaled that mobilizing younger voters will be a key part of her strategy heading into November.
A New Generation Stepping Up
Across the country, young leaders are stepping up in the fight against the socialist ideologies that pervade modern culture and instead restrain government and restore liberty.
At a time when many Americans feel disconnected from local government, candidates like Lee are working to restore trust by focusing on transparency, accountability, and results.
Whether she wins in November or not, it is clear that the next generation of liberty-minded leaders isn’t waiting for their turn.
They’re stepping up and winning.
