Good news for Georgia students

We have a new YAL group just started up at UGA! Another is already forming at Southern Polytechnic State. If you are a student at either school, email me at kmoen@campusreform.org to get involved.

Actually, if you go to any school in Georgia or South Carolina, email me so we can start a YAL group at your school, too.

Students from Georgia and South Carolina!

Did you know that there are only a total of 4 college YAL chapters in the great states of Georgia and South Carolina?

If you go to college in either of these states and want to start a YAL chapter on your campus, let me know. I work for the Leadership Institute, a non-profit, non-partisan organization that helps recruit and train effective libertarian and conservative college activists. We can give you the help you need to start one.

You can email me at kmoen@campusreform.org.

The Abraham Lincoln Memorial in Washingto D.C

The Atlantic Coast Conference of Baseball, yesterday, stated it wanted to move three of its future baseball tournaments out of South Carolina in protest of the Confederate Flag which has stood at the State Capitol for ten years.

According to First Coast News, opponents of the flag say it's a symbol of racism and hatred, while flag supporters say it honors heritage through traditional American principles of State Sovereignty.

The belief that the Confederacy stands for hate comes from the lessons of the Civil War, with Abraham Lincoln leading the way to end slavery. In fact, the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. pays tribute to the former President by stating "For whom he saved the Union" during the Civil War when the southern states refused to unionize.

Turnover in the GOP

Federal Aid Is Now Top Revenue for States

USA Today reports that in the wake of the stimulus bill, federal funding is now the chief source of income for the states, as even South Carolina, long a traditional bastion of states' rights, will be accepting aid:
In a historic first, Uncle Sam has supplanted sales, property and income taxes as the biggest source of revenue for state and local governments.

The shift shows how deeply the recession is cutting.
