Reason? An Oxymoron at Reason.com

David Harsanyi has recently published a piece for Reason.com that is hard to ignore in light of Ron Paul's recent straw poll victory at CPAC.  Is Paul the future of the conservative movement?  Harsanyi doesn't think so:

Let's, for a moment, forget Paul (and how I wish this could be a permanent condition, considering the congressman is neither a serious politician nor—and I can't stress this enough—a serious thinker).

He claims that Ron Paul is not a "serious politician," whatever that means.  Who ARE the serious politicians?  Mitt Romney?  Sarah Palin?  What exactly makes them serious?  Their chance of winning, their ideas?

Harsanyi then claims that he is not a "serious thinker."  However, regardless of whether or not Paul has the "serious thinker" capabilities of von Mises or others like him, Paul holds to many of the same conclusions of these thinkers.  One need not be Mises, only intelligent enough to pick Mises over... let's say... Keynes or Samuelson.  I personally cannot find fault with Paul for not being an eminent scholar.  He is, however, an M.D., which is an accomplishment compared to at least one Reason staffer.  If someone were to bankroll him in his youth he may have turned out to be something surely more important...like an opinion columnist, for instance.

Beltway Group Smears Tom Woods

Why does the establishmentarian group Think Progress feel the need to denounce libertarian Tom Woods as a "neoconfederate" and particularly "extreme" CPAC attendee? Because unlike the easy-ignorable actual hatemongers at the conference,  they feel threatened by Tom's  message.

They indeed should. More and more Americans are coming to realize that more aptly named "predator" drones, bigger military budgets, and war escalations does not constitute change. It doesn't matter whether a PC Democrat of the sort Think Progress favors is carrying it out.  Young people in particular couldn't care less about how PC the warmongering line has become, especially since the message of peace and liberty so well-articulated by heroes like Tom Woods is now a viable alternative.

Human beings -- who enjoy laughing, last time I checked -- will never adhere to the Dr.Phil-esque, wishy-washy, PC "standards" Think Progress is attempting to force on all of society. But even if we did, being PC doesn't excuse TP's favored politicians for the sin of killing innocent people. That Woods is so consistent in condemning both Republican and Democrat wars -- even when poor foreigners  totally ignored by the establishment are the primary victims -- tells you all you need to know about his character.

Author of Ron Paul hit piece exposed?

Ugh... Another day, another ugly smear against the Ron Paul/liberty movement, this time courtesy of Dana Goldstein, writing for "The Daily Beast."

The clear point of Ms. Goldstein's piece is that Paul movement is tainted by the "fringy" racism and general nuttiness of a few of our "associations." How ironic that point becomes when one looks at what she wrote about the Rev. Wright situation. Though Goldstein thinks it's fair to associate Ron Paul (and his whole movement) with the ideas of a few "birthers" he unknowingly meets in a C4L event, only a "racially-tinged," promoter of "lies" would have considered President Obama and his campaign "un-American," in response to the Rev. Wright "scandal."
