Ron Paul at YOUR campus?

Want to host Ron Paul on your campus?

You do!?  Well, fortunately and unfortunately, so do a lot of other YAL chapters across the country -- and Dr. Paul is a busy man.

Many YAL chapters have big plans for this fall. They're going to bring Ron Paul AND Tom Woods AND Judge Napolitano to campus; they're going to raise a bunch of money and throw a huge event with thousands of people in attendance!  Sound familiar?

Sadly, hosting Dr. Paul on campus is not as simple as it sounds. It is a unique opportunity that requires a comprehensive proposal, lots of time, fundraising, and several hundred petition signatures.

But don't despair!  YAL wants Ron Paul to visit your campus, too, so my staff and I have put together a guide for you to learn how to bring the good doctor to your campus.

Learn how to bring Ron Paul to YOUR campus!

If you follow the instructions in this guide, produce a creative and thorough application, and collect petition signatures on your campus; you will have a real opportunity to bring Dr. Paul to your school.  He loves the enthusiasm of young people and enjoys speaking on college campuses more than anywhere else -- but it's up to you to convince him to visit yours.

Please don't hesitate to contact me or the Regional Director or State Chair for your area if you have any questions about this process.  We're here to help you have a productive fall semester...and maybe schedule a visit from THE Ron Paul!

  • An extensive list of activism ideas for your chapter
  • Downloadable materials, an activism guide and the 2010 Convention slideshow
  • A full list of YAL's national events, starting with "Real Change Requires R3volution"
  • How to bring Ron Paul to campus!

Utilizing Sidewalk Chalk -- With Ideas and Pictures!

yalchalk1

I have never seen any of the other student organizations at my university utilize sidewalk chalk before, even though it is one of the lesser regulated methods of communication on campus. If your chapter has not utilized it before, do it! But check your school's policies and restrictions first of course!

Below are some ideas for what to write -- categorized by subject -- starting with the Constitution (Constitution week is Sep. 13-17!) Comment with ideas of your own!

The Constitution

Read the Constitution
If government doesn't obey the Constitution, what's treason?
Bush Killed the Constitution; Obama will bury it
Legalize the constitution
Reinstate/restore the Bill of Rights
The Constitution didn’t change on 9/11

Sample Flyer

While I'm sure more resources will be available soon, I decided to share a flyer we will be using to promote our YAL Chapter (Click thumbnail on right).

Feel free to edit this to use for your own chapter. You can download the template in a compressed .psd file by clicking here.

Alternatively, you can add customized type (or handwriting) to the image below, which has my school information removed.http://i.imgur.com/qzNKp.jpg

Thanks to Jeremy Henchcliffe for his help on the flyer.

10 Reasons Why You Should Be Using CampusReform.org

Sometimes I feel like I'm one of the only people using the Leadership Institute's Campus Reform website. Maybe I am -- I really don't know. It's often ignored and underappreciated, so I am here to convince you that you should try it out as well.

1. Training. Whether it’s for publications, campus elections or anything else, you can find it on this website.

2. Connect with student activists from your school. For example, here is the page for my school, the University of Washington. It’s in my school's lovely colors of purple and gold and I can network with other campuses, write blog updates about what’s happening at school, post local events and create a group just for our YAL chapter.

3. Each region has a campus services coordinator who can assist you in finding training. I know I can speak for many chapters in saying they know what they’re doing and are a good resource to tweak good ideas and make them great. The Western Region’s coordinator, Michael, helped us come up with the idea for our counter-strike against socialism.

Free e-book from the Cato Institute

For a limited time, the Cato Institute is offering a free downloadable e-book version of Cult of the Presidency: America’s Dangerous Devotion to Executive Power by Cato Institute Vice President Gene Healy.

From the Cato Institute's website:

Americans have increasingly expanded presidential power over recent decades by expecting the president to provide solutions for all national problems, prosperity for all, and protection from harm. Healy demonstrates how the president’s role needs to return to its properly defined constitutional limits, with its powers held in check by Congress and the courts.

I’ve only been able to skim through some of it and it so far seems like an interesting read, so I definitely think it’s worth checking out; plus it’s free!
