George W. Obama

One year ago today, Barack Obama swore to uphold the Constitution as the 44th President of the United States.  "Hope" and "change" had arrived in Washington, DC.  Or so the American people were led to believe.

As the spring semester begins, it's time to take action on your campuses and recruit students who now realize what you and I have known from the beginning:  Obama is more of the same.

To help you and your YAL chapter get started, YAL National has created a couple recruitment flyers for you to use. Click on the images below to download and print quarter sheet flyers.  Please feel free to post them online and share them with your friends too.

What ChangeObama is Bush

  1. Click on the images to download.
  2. Arrange 4 images on a page to create a 1/4 sheet flyer.
  3. Print out 1 copy.
  4. Use a Sharpie and hand-write your chapter's information (next meeting time/room #, contact info, ect.) in the white space at the bottom.
  5. Photocopy copies of your custom 1/4 sheet flyer.
  6. Cut out flyers (paper cutter is best).  Try to keep the 4 images as symmetrical as possible.
  7. Staple, tape, and distribute flyers around campus.

Real Change Report: Update from UC Irvine

I just got this email from Tony with the YAL UC Irvine chapter. They are off to a real good start in California. To read more, check out their previous Real Change Report.
So the event was a huge success and we were able to complete all of our objectives (recruit new members, inform people about Obama, and get media coverage). At the beginning I was the only libertarian I knew of at UCI, we succeeded in signing up about 30 people to our email list and have gotten several replies.

Real Change Report: Rutgers University

Editor's note: This is well worth the full read. Rutgers put forth an A+ effort. We were supposed to have our event here at Rutgers in front of the steps of the Brower Commons dining hall, a high traffic area during the day. Because of the cold weather and snow, we decided to change the location to across the street inside the Rutgers Student Center in the downstairs food court. We set up a couple tables and started to hang up posters on the wall behind us. One janitor even tried to snatch some of the fliers and throw them away, but I asked him to put it down.

Real Change Report: UT - Austin

Norm at UT-Austin reports: "At UT-Austin, we had a lot of success handing out our materials when we combined them with free pocket-Constitutions. That worked REALLY well. We gave away ALL we had and many more that we have had with the Libertarian Longhorns group. About 1/4 of the giveaways resulted in new emails, but everyone who got one received a YAL flyer plus a homemade insert about our Facebook groups and next meeting. We didn't receive any harassment but also didn't get any significant media attention.

Real Change Report: Idaho State University

Report from Sheldon at Idaho State: "I set up a table with a few posters, handouts, news articles, stickers, pocket constitutions (people loved those, thanks again for them) and got a handful of people to join our group. Nobody seemed to care that Obama is bringing us the same policies, but they didn't like to be reminded of it, either. I got a lot of looks, not dirty looks, but hopeless looks. It really is upsetting to see people who have been convinced that they have no power, no control over what happens in their lives.

Real Change Report: Southeastern Louisiana University

Shawn at the Southeastern Louisiana University writes in: "...I had to duck and dodge as I was taping fliers to every door I could get to. I really got our Student Union good, at least one flier on each door... I printed a lot of the miniature fliers and put each of them with a pocket constitution. I left those on common resting places for students hoping that they would check them out. By 11:00 almost all fliers were ripped off all the doors, just leaving the scotch tape, almost seemed like they were removed in an angry rage.
