Panetta Expects Iraq to Extend U.S. Presence

The Wall Street Journal reports that the U.S. government will extend military presence in Iraq, almost a year after Rachel Maddow declared the war's end:

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta voiced confidence Friday that Iraq would agree to some continued U.S. military presence beyond the official American withdrawal at the end of the year. Mr. Panetta and top U.S. commanders have been pressing Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and other leaders for months to make up their minds about whether to ask the U.S. to keep forces in Iraq beyond Dec. 31.

Since Judith Miller and New York Times’ collusion with the Bush Administration to fool the country into war, corporate media and its brand of “journalism” has become a mere mouthpiece for the state.

Some statistics:

That Rachel Maddow and her fellow "journalists" retain any credibility is a symptom of Americans’ willful ignorance of the truth:  We are still at war.

Rachel Maddow and Nullification...

Rachel Maddow is a curious brand.  She often lets her interview guests speak uninterrupted in a manner rare for television and is by far one of the most leftist talking heads around these days, but she rarely seems to be more interested in principle than partisan hackery.  In her worldview, if it's Right, it's wrong. Period.

Even when Democrats do something obviously not in line with standard Leftist principles, it is somehow the Right's fault.  I direct the reader to my previous blog post where Maddow seeks to reconcile the fact that Obama did indeed start a war.  She does this by claiming that it is Republican's fault.

Indeed, she has her own particular kind of crazy.

However, despite Maddow's seemingly absolute partisan hackery (I like that phrase), she often falls in line with the rest of the bunch when it comes to fear mongering, lying, and giving false history.  In fact, she could often make Bill Kristol or David Horowitz blush with her rhetoric.  Take, for instance, her recent show where she tackled the topic of nullification. Announcing the Winning on Principle Newsletter

HeaderFull

Just as Jeff recently reprinted from the first edition of Young American Revolution, we recognize that political success is only honorable if we stand for principle, and that liberty will only prevail if we win politically.

To embody this axiom, the mission of Young Americans for Liberty is to train, educate, and mobilize youth activists committed to "winning on principle."

In order to advance our mission and Jeff's promise in that article, I'm proud to announce this exclusive bi-weekly email titled, "The Winning on Principle Newsletter" that you should have received in your inbox today.

Before you scroll down to read, please allow me to explain its purpose.

The Winning on Principle Newsletter is designed to clearly articulate effective strategies, tactics, and ideas that you can use on campus or on a campaign. Our goal is to equip YAL members with practical political knowledge, so you know how to win with our principled message.

Every other week, YAL's Executive Director, Jeff Frazee, and I will share with you a new lesson from campaign experts and lifelong activists who have dedicated their lives to the political process.

Nearly all of these lessons you will never hear in school. That is why we believe the Winning on Principle Newsletter is a valuable source of information. It's an investment in our movement.

If you truly believe in our cause, then you owe it to our philosophy to learn how to win. And with information like this, win we shall.

DECONSTRUCTING RAND'S NATIONAL DEBUT by DON RASMUSSEN

The Rand Paul primary campaign has been an exercise in message discipline, image control, and managerial competence that should be broadly admired and studied.

Rachel Maddow Show fails to apologize for blatant and damaging error in its own transcript!

If you have caught any of my posts about Rand Paul in the past, you'd know that I am by no means writing to advance his candidacy:   I am skeptical of his libertarian bonafides on a host of issues.

That said, distortions and smears are not acceptable, whether they happen to be directed at our ideological confreres or foes. As The Nation's Chris Hedges pointed out while guest-hosting on Rachel Maddow's show Friday, The New York Times had misinterpreted the transcript of her notorious interview with Rand Paul and reported a big falsehood. However, as the Daily Paul reported, several other news sources reported this falsehood because of an error in the Maddow Show's own written transcript, not merely a bad interpretation of it. Her program's failure to apologize in the four days since the interview -- in the face of irrefutable and politically damaging error -- demonstrates at the very most, a lack of integrity, and at the very least, a lack of accountability.

Don't let Maddow and Co. pass the buck to the New York Times and present this damaging error as an isolated incident. We in the grassroots need to be the ones holding this intolerant advocate of tolerance accountable. Contact the Rachel Maddow Show (rachel@msnbc.com) and ask politely but unequivocally for an apology.

(Thanks to Daily Paul for their reporting on this important issue of media accountability.)

The Ongoing Revolution and Rand Paul

While it's hard not to agree with Milton Friedman and Preston, it would be an act of wanton neglect not to comment on the revolution and counter-revolution at hand and the trivial sideshows anti-liberty statists (redundant) are creating.  I say "revolution" because we are in the midst of the the Obama Revolution, which is but the latest and most flagrant episode in the history of this republic's fight against progressive statism -- the American war for independence was fought against statism embodied by the king and parliament of 18th century Britian. And "counter-revolution" because, as Daniel Larison rightly noted in 2004:

In a struggle against a revolutionary idea, it is only possible to use ideological elements which are a thousand times more radical, or adapt principles which represent a total reaction against them.

~ Francis Stuart Campbell (a.k.a., Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn), The Menace of the Herd

The revolutionary idea today is easily identified in a progressive statist character assassin like Rachel Maddow, who has herself said "So much of my political involvement is tied up in being a big dyke."

"Civil, Rights, Action!" Responding to Liberal Attacks on Libertarianism

A member of the New York City Campaign For Liberty published a response to an article that appeared on the Huffington Post a few days ago. I felt like it was worth publishing here for all the kiddos to read to help better defend themselves as you all are no doubt being asked constantly about the Civil Rights Act as it pertains to libertarianism.

douglass

Before you read his response, I felt like this quote by Fredrick Douglass basically sums up his entire argument:

"In regard to the colored people, there is always more that is benevolent, I perceive, than just, manifested towards us. What I ask for the negro is not benevolence, not pity, not sympathy, but simply justice. The American people have always been anxious to know what they shall do with us... I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are worm-eaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! ... And if the negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone! ... your interference is doing him positive injury."

In May, Obama proposed indefinite preventative detention. What happened?

Rachel Maddow is obviously not great on everything, but in this video she gives a sweet monologue the "indefinite preventive detention" Obama proposed in May.  What exactly does this detention mean in practice?  Maddow explains it well, but here's another example of how it could work:

Imagine you are picked up off the street for daring to write something provocative in your blog.  Perhaps you vaguely threaten to relocate to Afghanistan and work with a humanitarian aid organization there.  Unkown to you the humanitarian aid organization might possibly be associated with the Afghan resistence.  Perhaps the head of the aid organization is the third cousin twice removed of a suspected warlord causing our march for empire trouble on the border.  Based on that alone you could be kept in a cell forever.  After all, letting you out of that cell might mean you really would do what you threatened and we can't have that.

This all happened in May.  Old news, right?  Yeah, it is.  But it's not something we should forget about, especially when it's so difficult to find more recent updates on the situation.  Here, for instance, is a blog post from a few days ago, but other than that, recent news on this situation seems to be nearly nonexistent.

But maybe I'm missing something -- thus this blog post.  Does anyone know what's up?  I assume the proposal went through, but given the upcoming deadline (this Friday) for the closing of Guantanamo, I'm wondering exactly what happened.  Leave a comment if you've seen news I missed.

Ron Paul on the Rachel Maddow Show 5/5/09

This is an excellent interview with Dr. Paul from Tuesday's Rachel Maddow Show.  Though Congressman Paul isn't the most articulate or charismatic politician, there are times when he hits a home run, and this was one of those times.  It also helps that Ms. Maddow allowed him to speak and finish his thoughts instead of constantly interrupting him like most interviewers do with Paul and indeed most interviewees.  Maddow is undoubtedly a liberal -- and thoroughly invested in the false left-right dichotomy of American politics -- but this is a good venue for someone like Dr.
