A Plea to the Current 'Peace' Movement

It seems to me that members of the statist left can't stick to one topic when arguing for their positions. Nowhere is this more prevalent than in the "anti-war" movement. Justin Raimondo explains this perfectly in his article "Why is the Antiwar Movement Stalled?"

I only bring this up because of an email I received from United for Peace and Justice. In case you haven't heard of UFPJ, they are one of the largest networks of peace activists in the country right now. They are constantly involved with organizing rallies and building coalitions in the fight for "peace and justice." In the email I got, they boast about new alliances that UFPJ has created in building for their big rally in DC on October 2nd. Who are these new alliances you may ask? NAACP, 1199 SEIU, the National Council of La Raza, Green for All, Center for Community Change and the United States Student Association. All these are groups wholly owned and supported by statists.

Get Excited! We are Making a difference in the struggle towards peace and liberty.

Disgusting, dehumanizing euphemisms aside, Vance is correct in asserting that the American People's uncritical military-worship allows the US state to get away with all sorts of atrocities overseas.

Take, for example, this sort of thing. The US government's "abandoned," landmines continue to kill innocents in Vietnam even to this day. The murderer-in-chief is by necessity a numbers-guy and "pragmatist," that won't bother to think about such things in lieu of his "grand vision." So it's not surprising that he's refusing to sign an international treaty   banning the use of  landmines in general.

The only way the politicians--both foreign and domestic-- will stop the murder is public opposition, which will require  a young, romantic, impassioned, and informed group of Americans to change the minds of their countrymen.

Anti-war protests planned for this Fall

Good for those members of Code Pink who refuse to back down from their principles, and are readying anti-war protests for this Fall. I especially admire Cindy Sheehan, whom some "peacenik" leftists have labeled an "attention whore" for refusing to only oppose wars executed by "untrendy" presidents.

She certainly lives by Mises' motto, and despite our differences, her courage is to be admired.

Whither the Peace Movement?

As Young Americans for Liberty readers well know, the peace movement which was so active during the Bush years seems to have all but disappeared in the wake of Obama's election. Of course, I would argue that if blood has been unjustly shed it hardly matters which political party is responsible, and the peace movement ought to be just as strong today as it ever was.
