Will Obama Actually End Combat Missions in Iraq?

Recently the Obama Administration has stated that it plans to effectively end combat missions by the end of August.  This would end Operation Iraqi Freedom, though if I remember correctly, we already declared "mission accomplished" there and began Operation New Dawn.

As American military history has shown, we will most likely never leave Iraq completely -- for though this new mission, according to the administration, will be the end of combat for Americans, our government will still maintain a large and expensive presence in Iraq, "supporting and training Iraqi forces, counter-terrorism missions and protecting US civilian and military initiatives."  How this is distinguishable from combat missions I'm not sure, but at least we can hope that about 10,000 of our boys might come home.

This brings one big question:  Can we actually trust this will happen?

America on Trial: Socrates, Obama, and Why They Are Opposites

*Disclaimer: If you’ve not read any of Plato’s works, this rebuttal may not make much of any sense. For further reference, see Plato’s Apology, Republic, and my personal favorite, Phaedo.

I have to ask Brandon Griefe who recently wrote an opinion piece entitled Obama: A pupil of Socrates a sincere question:

Are you serious?!

You cannot honestly believe you’re the only person to have ever trivialized the greatest philosopher known to modern society. You may, however, be the only person who has written an opinion piece on Obama and Socrates being similar.
Politics does make for strange bedfellows as the saying goes, but you are making a big stretch by putting Obama and Socrates even on the same page.

Let me be straight: Obama is the polar opposite of Socrates. While the failings of President Obama are many and clearly obvious to a lot of us, I will take particular contention with your opinions on Socrates and Plato in regards to government driven society.

Obama Should Kick the Government's Ass

Loath to waste a good crisis, the progressive consensus is that America's overwhelming thirst for oil is the ultimate cause of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Self-styled progressives argue that if only the government would take more action to regulate energy and encourage the development of alternatives to traditional fossil fuels, disasters like the Gulf Oil Spill could be avoided. As if. Let's take a brief look at the role our government itself played in causing the spill, and see if we can't identify who's ass Obama should kick.

Obama Calls for Civilian Force as Large as the Military

We all know we saw this one coming.

This is one of the many examples of how this administration has been ridiculously expanding the size of the government. At Wednesday's townhall meeting, Obama mentioned how the military is "overburned" by our current wars and how a civilian force is needed. This is nothing new. Obama himself mentioned this when we was campaigning two years ago:

"We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded," Obama said in July 2, 2008.

According to President Obama, this civilian force could also be used as another tool for our blessed nation-building efforts from abroad. The administration has been talking about efforts to drastically increase the bugdet of the State Department as well. Oh, and this civilian force will be funded on roughly the same scale as the military.

Instead of doing the wise thing -- limiting government, and stopping all forms of nation-building and interventionism -- this administration is doing the exact opposite. But with the health care bill , TARP and the finance reform bill passed, the PATRIOT act renewed, etc., should we really expect any sensible limitations from our wise overlords?

Now watch this drive!

Remember when Michael Moore's film Farenheit 9-11 made this short video clip infamous?

Now President Obama has told Politico that the Gulf Oil Spill is like 9-11 right before... golfing for four hours.

Singer Sophie B. Hawkins: Obama throwing country 'under the bus,' choking on spill response

The slow awakening of Obama supporters continues to enlighten. After the jump there are some great quotes.

H/t The Hill:

Singer Sophie B. Hawkins told The Hill on Thursday that "America's being thrown under the bus" by President Barack Obama as he presses forward with his agenda and comes under criticism for his response to the Gulf oil spill.

Hawkins, who scored Top 10 Billboard hits in the 1990s with "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" and "As I Lay Me Down," is donating all proceeds from her new single, "The Land, the Sea and the Sky," to the Waterkeeper Alliance, which has launched coordinated efforts to combat the effects of the spill.

She was also critical of the White House earlier this month in a Huffington Post editorial, writing, "BP executives are pointing fingers while the government continues hand-wringing. ... The irony that Obama rushes in the lawyers while the well is still spewing is not lost on most Americans."

Calling out Conservatives at the Tea Party

This past wave of tea-parties I was honored to give the keynote speech to over 2,500 people at a tea-party in Winston Salem, NC.

My speech, however, was distinctly different than others given that day; in fact, I made it a point to call out the injustices of the GOP in recent years. The best part, though, is that the speech was delightfully eaten up by the crowd and I spent hours after the speech talking to people about the message I aimed to convey... and they all overwhelmingly agreed with me.

It's one thing to be right, it's another thing to convince someone you're right; it's not only about what you say, but how you say it.

Watch the speech below; in my humble opinion, this is the way we can win over the right.

Peace President Flip Flopper

"The days of our open ended commitment must come to a close. And the need to bring this war to an end is here." - Senator Barack Obama, January 30th, 2007.

First, he called for an end to the war in Iraq.

Then, he won a peace prize.
