V for Vendetta Screened at the University of California-San Diego
From Cody Dunn:
On November 5, 2010, the YAL chapter of the University of California, San Diego decided to have a public screening of the anti-authoritarian action film, V for Vendetta; 73 people arrived to commemorate November 5th.
The film revolves on a near-futuristic scenario involving an authoritarian political party controlling the British Government after a series of terrorist attacks “convince” the people to give up their liberty for security. Under this dark guise of fascist control over the state, a hero emerges to incite a rebellion for liberty.
Unfortunately for us, such a statist society is coming to fruition each day as the U.S government tries to usurp our rights to liberty for the sake of national security. The masses continue to feed this beast by allowing our airports to be fitted with “porno-scanners” and using the legislative arm to ban alcoholic drinks such as Four Loko. Perhaps it is time we assert our rights as free individuals striving for a free, harmonious society, before all of our freedoms are quashed by an overbearing government content on protecting themselves more than serving the people.
