Obama Argues for War as He Accepts Peace Prize

The Huffington Post reports:

President Barack Obama entered the pantheon of Nobel Peace Prize winners Thursday with humble words, acknowledging his own few accomplishments while delivering a robust defense of war and promising to use the prestigious award to "reach for the world that ought to be."

The transcript of the speech is available here.   One of the best excerpts:

[Afghanistan] is a conflict that America did not seek; one in which we are joined by forty-three other countries -- including Norway -- in an effort to defend ourselves and all nations from further attacks.

Right, because we didn't choose to go into Afghanistan at all.

Are you deserving of a "Peace" Prize?

After Obama won the 1.4 million dollar prize known as the Nobel Peace Prize, I began feeling a bit overlooked. Luckily a sympathetic patriot was kind enough to gift me a Nobel Peace Prize on Facebook. Do you deserve a "Peace" prize? Of course you do! You brushed your teeth this morning (I hope), fighting the evil cavity doers from terrorizing your enamel.

Go on, give your friends the Peace Prize they've always deserved: Nobel "War" is Peace Prize.

Republicans Love the Tuhrrorists

One of the Nobel Prize committee's reasons for awarding the Peace Prize to Barack Obama was that he made such a great departure from the foreign policy of that big bully Bush.

In a sign of how far we have come from the dark days of the Bush administration, the DNC issued this very un-Bushian and non-bullying statement, in response to Republicans' reactions to the Nobel announcement:

The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists -- the Taliban and Hamas this morning -- in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize...Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize -- an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride -- unless of course you are the Republican Party.

Who did he beat?

With all this comotion over Obama winning the Nobel Prize, head over to this site and take a quick look at some of the people he beat. I personally don't understand the logic behind this decision to give the award to Obama, according to Alfred Nobel's Will, the prize is awarded

"...to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."

He is probably rolling in his grave right about now. Obama has stated that he will donate the $1.4m to a charity, that he has yet to decide on. Lets hope he gives it some of the people who got swindled out of their Nobel prize.

Nobel Prize for What Now?

Imagine my surprise this morning when I woke up and read USA Today.

Press secretary Robert Gibbs awoke President Obama with a phone call just before 6 a.m. to tell him he had won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Let's take a look at the short history of this very peaceful President.
