Newt Gingrich's Statement on Ground Zero Mosque

Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the U.S. House, just issued a statement on the proposed “Cordoba House” Mosque at Ground Zero. You can probably guess how tolerant and pro liberty it was.

There should be no mosque near Ground Zero in New York so long as there are no churches or synagogues in Saudi Arabia.

Really, Newt? I suppose we should have no freedom of speech until Saudi Arabia has it too. What a great argument. Actually, Newt, I'll take you up on your logic -- how about we have no Capitol, White House, or Pentagon so long as there are none in Saudi Arabia?

America is experiencing an Islamist cultural-political offensive designed to undermine and destroy our civilization. Sadly, too many of our elites are the willing apologists for those who would destroy them if they could.

I love how Newt talks like he isn't one of these "elites."  The truth of the matter is that it is the government's spending, borrowing, inflating, and countless other interventions that are undermining and destroying our civilization -- and Gingrich is a willing apologist for it all!

What it comes down to is this:  The Mosque owner and everyone else has the right to do whatever they want with their property as long as they do not aggress against the person or property of another.

Ron Paul Loses by 1 (Yes, ONE) Vote in SRLC Straw Poll

Reporting outside the Hilton Conference center in the Big Easy:

Just as the headline reads, Ron Paul lost the 2010 Presidential Straw Poll by one single vote to former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.  This one vote, however, really comes off as a big win for Congressman Paul--Evangelicals for Mitt spent tens of thousands trying to influence voters in the straw poll by giving away Romney books, piggy-banks indicating fiscal responsibility and massive advertising posters of Mitt all throughout the conference.

Ron Paul, on the other hand, merely had a few supporters with homemade signs.

As I attended the 2010 SRLC to spread the mission of YAL with dozens of other liberty lovers from the South, I could not but help to notice how many people were starting to support the liberty movement. Although a majority of these people did not vote for Ron Paul in 2008, there appeared some sort of changing sentiment, rising, and fast, for this man and his ideas of, well...big-tent, really, really--really small-government.

Results from the SRLC 2010 straw-poll:

Newt Gingrich    18%
Mike Huckabee  4%
Gary Johnson    1%
Sarah Palin       18%
Ron Paul            24% (438 votes)
Tim Pawlenty   3%
Mike Pence      3%
Mitt Romney    24% (439 votes)
Rick Santorum    2%

*YAL does not support or endorse any candidates for public office.

Gingrich -- A Potential For 2012?

newtFormer House Speaker Newt Gingrich claims that he is one of the handful of potential 2012 Republican Presidential Candidates.  "I think I'm probably on a list of seven or eight possible candidates at this stage," Gingrich said.

After days and perhaps weeks of media speculation, Gingrich finally confirmed that he may run in 2012, saying:

We have a lot of people around the country who would like to have somebody who represents a commitment to replace the current failed programs and to develop a set of solutions that are practical and workable.

Failed programs indeed, Mr. Gingrich.
