Bachmann Flares Up in Early NH Polling But Will It Keep?

imageRecent news cycles have channeled the latest polls from New Hampshire to refer to Michelle Bachmann's latest rise in the GOP field after her announcement during the June 13th debate in Manchester, NH. The latest poll conducted by Suffolk University and 7 News found her with 11%, behind Mitt Romney with 36% and above Ron Paul with 8%. This poll included people not yet in the race like Rudy Giuliani (5%), Sarah Palin (4%), Rick Perry (2%) and George Pataki (1%), while excluding some announced candidates like Gary Johnson, who recently opened a campaign office in downtown Manchester.

In CNN and WMUR's NH Primary Poll conducted by the UNH Survey Center published May 23rd had Michelle Bachmann with 4% behind Romney, Ron Paul, Giuliani and lead balloon candidate Newt Gingrich.

Romney: "I'm Not Going to Take my Effort and Focus on the Federal Reserve"

Here Mitt Romney makes clear that he cannot be bothered with the Federal Reserve and doesn't think the President should be either.  Instead, the executive branch, he says, should focus on getting America back to work.  That's a scary thought.

Ron Paul's CPAC Straw Poll Win

Views are my own. They do not represent the views of any organization.

Over the past three days, liberty lovers stormed the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) with messages of peace, prosperity and liberty. It was an honor to meet so many like-minded young people who are concerned about the future of our beloved country. Many were poor college students who traveled thousands of miles, missed class and spent hundreds of dollars just to attend CPAC.

It always brings tear to my eyes to be in a room of liberty lovers chanting “End the Fed!” Humble Ron Paul always looks so surprised to see our enthusiasm. He signed my End the Fed book right under his dedication which reads “To the young people who powered my presidential campaign and who are the heart of the anti-Fed movement.” I still remember the first day I learned about Ron Paul in February 2007. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that his presidential run would spark a revolution that continues to rapidly grow.

As one should expect, our presence angered the pro-war political establishment. These so-called conservatives were fewer in number than they were in previous years.  As I walked by proudly wearing my Campaign for Liberty and Young Americans for Liberty stickers, I heard whispers “those Ron Paul people are a cult, I swear.”

Romney Wins NH GOP Straw Poll, Ron Paul Places 2nd

New Hampshire Republican State Committee members voted in a presidential straw poll today, with 1st place being taken by Mitt Romney at 35%. Ron Paul placed 2nd with 11%, followed by Tim Pawlenty at 8%, and Sarah Palin at 7%.

As James Ostrowski has said, "This result is impressive because, (1) Ron Paul is busy fighting the Fed, not campaigning; (2) it is not a poll of grass roots activists but party regulars; and (3) it means Ron Paul was the leading tea party candidate ranged against the country club GOP man—and likely loser against the neo-centrist Obama—Mitt Romney."

Romney is possibly the biggest flip-flopper in history, and can not be trusted, as Jack Hunter shows in this video from during the 2008 presidential race:

It's Just a Scary Word

IslamofascismHearing Mitt Romney and the rest of the neocons ramble on about foreign policy is like watching an Adolph Hitler speech in 1939. Eloquent at face value, the scare tactics of a neoconservative foreign policy couldn’t contain more fallacies. But my favorite of this litany of spooky words is “Islamofascism.” The term, when left to its own devices, is an oxymoron at best. When used the in the phraseology of an ignoramus like Rudy Giuliani, the term becomes a hostile world of hate in American dialog.

It’s not that I do not recognize we have enemies abroad.  But this word is not really about that.  Instead, it’s the way neocons inflict fear in a rather ignorant demographic. Giuliani said in 2007 that our enemies “follow a violent ideology: radical Islamic fascism, which uses the mask of religion to further totalitarian goals and aims to destroy the existing international system.”

That sounds scary, doesn’t it?

2010 SRLC: A Narrow Loss for Team Liberty's Starting Quarterback

votepaul

Ron Paul lost the 2010 SRLC straw poll because of me. I didn't go to cast the deciding vote. I should have bought a plane ticket and sacrificed a weekend in my beloved New York City to be there for my own freedoms, and to be there for Ron Paul, a man who has dedicated his life to restoring liberty for all of us.

Now that I've acknowledged my own fault in this loss, allow me to examine a few other thoughts of mine on the campaign to unite freedom lovers come the 2012 presidential election.

Subject: Gary Johnson

Gary Johnson might be one of the best modern day governors I know of. What little I know about him seems to be favorable and we should definitly keep tabs on him for the future.

Ron Paul Loses by 1 (Yes, ONE) Vote in SRLC Straw Poll

Reporting outside the Hilton Conference center in the Big Easy:

Just as the headline reads, Ron Paul lost the 2010 Presidential Straw Poll by one single vote to former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.  This one vote, however, really comes off as a big win for Congressman Paul--Evangelicals for Mitt spent tens of thousands trying to influence voters in the straw poll by giving away Romney books, piggy-banks indicating fiscal responsibility and massive advertising posters of Mitt all throughout the conference.

Ron Paul, on the other hand, merely had a few supporters with homemade signs.

As I attended the 2010 SRLC to spread the mission of YAL with dozens of other liberty lovers from the South, I could not but help to notice how many people were starting to support the liberty movement. Although a majority of these people did not vote for Ron Paul in 2008, there appeared some sort of changing sentiment, rising, and fast, for this man and his ideas of, well...big-tent, really, really--really small-government.

Results from the SRLC 2010 straw-poll:

Newt Gingrich    18%
Mike Huckabee  4%
Gary Johnson    1%
Sarah Palin       18%
Ron Paul            24% (438 votes)
Tim Pawlenty   3%
Mike Pence      3%
Mitt Romney    24% (439 votes)
Rick Santorum    2%

*YAL does not support or endorse any candidates for public office.

N-CPAC: Day 1

I can say with almost full confidence that I am hardly surprised by the enormous presence of neocons at CPAC. And that is a major tragedy. Conservativism is all about smaller government, less spending, and "strong family values." Today, I've heard much about those three sacred pillars but little of any real suggestions to carry them out. What was encouraging, however, was the large number of limited government conservatives/Constitutionalists/libertarians present at CPAC. The John Birch Society, Students for Liberty, YAL, and C4L had a smaller but much more vocal and well-informed presence than the neocon majority.

Today's most interesting speech, the opening address, was from Marco Rubio.  Rubio was truly genuine throughout his speech and appears to be, sans a few major issues, quite conservative.  (Note:  This is not an endorsement of Rubio's candidacy for Senate.  YAL does not support or oppose any candidates.)

His speech began with an anecdote about his parents, refugees from Cuba, who came here with literally nothing.
