Warmongers Unite to Pressure RNC Chairman to Step Down

Recently Bill Kristol, Liz Cheney (daughter of Dick), and Erick Erickson and other neocons and digressive warmongers came together in agreement recently to suggest that GOP chairman Michael Steele step down from his position after making remarks about the Obama Administration’s strategy in Afghanistan.  As Cody London mentioned in his post, there has been a gigantic push by Bill Kristol and other warmongering so-called “conservatives” to persuade Steele to resign, just because he might make the party look like it is taking a more peaceful stance on the war in Afghanistan than the Obama administration and the Democratic Party.

How wicked and un-patriotic of Steele to suggest that the war in Afghanistan is a lost cause, and for bringing up of all things, the history of wars in Afghanistan. He is such a terrorist, queue the thunder and lightning for his un-patriotic evil presence!

In Steele's defense, there is nothing in Steele’s statement that is even remotely suggesting that the war itself is a mistake, much less anti-war.  In fact Steele himself referred to the war in Afghanistan as a "necessary endeavor" in a statement issued after his initial "controversial" comments.  Just as Rand Paul's comments were twisted around by the media to imply racism, Steele's comments were twisted to imply that he may actually advocate a completely rational, logical, and mature non-interventionist foreign policy that may be considered "un-patriotic" by people with a considerable amount of influence in the GOP, like Bill Kristol.

Steele Garners Flack for Afghanistan Comments

Steele

The McChrystal incident, to me, was very comical. I think it's a reflection of the frustration that a lot of our military leaders has with this Administration and their prosecution of the war in Afghanistan. Keep in mind again, federal candidates, this was a war of Obama's choosing. This was not something that the United States had actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in.

But it was the President who was trying to be cute by half by building a script demonizing Iraq, while saying the battle really should in Afghanistan," he continued. "Well, if he is such a student of history, has he not understood that you know that's the one thing you don't do, is engage in a land war in Afghanistan? Alright, because everyone who has tried over a thousand years of history has failed, and there are reasons for that. There are other ways to engage in Afghanistan.

The above statement made by RNC chairman Michael Steele at a small Connecticut fundraiser apparently has neoconservatives in the Republican Party up in arms. Garnering the top headline on Politico, the story now reads "Steele Faces New Resignations Calls."

Ron Paul Loses by 1 (Yes, ONE) Vote in SRLC Straw Poll

Reporting outside the Hilton Conference center in the Big Easy:

Just as the headline reads, Ron Paul lost the 2010 Presidential Straw Poll by one single vote to former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.  This one vote, however, really comes off as a big win for Congressman Paul--Evangelicals for Mitt spent tens of thousands trying to influence voters in the straw poll by giving away Romney books, piggy-banks indicating fiscal responsibility and massive advertising posters of Mitt all throughout the conference.

Ron Paul, on the other hand, merely had a few supporters with homemade signs.

As I attended the 2010 SRLC to spread the mission of YAL with dozens of other liberty lovers from the South, I could not but help to notice how many people were starting to support the liberty movement. Although a majority of these people did not vote for Ron Paul in 2008, there appeared some sort of changing sentiment, rising, and fast, for this man and his ideas of, well...big-tent, really, really--really small-government.

Results from the SRLC 2010 straw-poll:

Newt Gingrich    18%
Mike Huckabee  4%
Gary Johnson    1%
Sarah Palin       18%
Ron Paul            24% (438 votes)
Tim Pawlenty   3%
Mike Pence      3%
Mitt Romney    24% (439 votes)
Rick Santorum    2%

*YAL does not support or endorse any candidates for public office.

The Forecast for 2010

imageI've laughed at GOP Chairman Michael Steele on this blog before, but we've also noted his occasional flashes of friendliness toward the liberty movement.  His tenure as chairman of the GOP has been interesting, to say the least.

Today, Steele is criticized at the National Journal (H/T to Hot Air) for his recent statement to Sean Hannity that he doesn't know if the GOP is ready to lead the country:

"I don't know. And that's what I'm assessing and evaluating right now. Those candidates who are looking to run have to be anchored in these principles," he said, referring to 5 conservative ideals he lays out in his new tome. "If they don't [anchor themselves], then they'll get to Washington, and they'll start drinking that Potomac River water, and they'll get drunk with power and throw the steps out the window."

The seven comments on the article, as of this writing, are universally negative.  Steele is termed a "wimp," a poor leader, and called to "move on."  But why?  I mean, he certainly hasn't got a great record as GOP chairman to date.  But he should resign for this?  For apparently wanting to take the time to find candidates who won't be corrupted immediately on arrival in DC?  For seeming to approach regaining the majority with some sort of thought?

Reason No. 3475 Why the GOP Isn't Doing so Hot with Young People

I feel a little nit-picky making this post, but if you haven't already appreciated these photos, I think you need to.  GOP Chairman Michael Steele had a photo shoot with his interns -- and they wonder why the Republican Party has difficulty getting the youth vote these days.

Here's one of the...best...ones:
