Wise words from Tom Woods...

Via lewrockwell.com and dailypaul.com, Tom Woods says:

Tom Woods

I think it’s a huge mistake to dismiss the Tea Party people just because they’re having Sarah Palin speak at their convention next month.  These people are a diverse lot, and many of them respect Ron Paul.  They know something is wrong, which is more than can be said for most of our fellow Americans, and they are interested in learning.  Tea Party people have come out to several of my speaking events, even co-sponsoring one of them, and I’ll tell you one thing: they read.  Most of them hadn’t heard the case I was making about the Fed and the business cycle before, so they bought copies of Meltdown.  That is a radical book.  How else would I have reached this audience?

Interestingly enough, I was invited to speak at the Tea Party national convention next month, the one that’s received all the attention because of Palin.  I couldn’t make it because my wife’s due date coincides with the event.  But they wanted me to speak about nullification and the 10th Amendment.  Tame for us, maybe, but it’s not nothing.

This is a gigantic movement; why not try to reach them?  I myself was a neocon back in the early 1990s, and I’m sure glad people didn’t write me off.

Prescient Economists Say Recession Ended in July

Newsletter Economist Dennis Gartman comes out with a bold new prediction that our recent economic ails are coming to an end.   He rattles off a few economic indicators that but can't really give a set rule for analysis.  Instead he says "It's like the definition for pornography: I'll know it when I see it."

He further shows his palm reading prowess when he declares the act of trying to understand the business cycle as being "arcane."  If only Mises and Hayek could've lived to see their work so supplanted!  With statements like "i'm not going to get caught up in the explanations of things if the correlations hold," who needs Tom Woods to muddle our minds with books like Meltdown

Yes We Should

Should We Kill the Fed? - by Pat Buchanan:
”(T)he very people who devised the policies that produced the mess are now posing as the wise public servants who will show us the way out,” writes Thomas Woods in Meltdown. Already in its sixth week on the New York Times best-seller list, this eminently readable book traces the Fed’s role in every financial crisis s

CBSnews.com Reviews Meltdown

Tom Woods' most recent offering has garnered the attention of some major news outlets, including CBSnews.com, which published a review of Meltdown yesterday. The review was refreshingly detailed and honest about how Meltdown views the Fed and government interference in the markets, and even gave honorable mention to the Austrian school.

Full-throttle Opposition

An edited transcript of Tom Woods' CPAC remarks is available on LewRockwell.com today.  He explains in layman's terms (which can be handily repeated to any non-Austrian friends you might happen to have) why the economy is in the mess it's in:
We are at a watershed point in our country’s history.  Historians may look back on it as a turning point comparable in scope to the New Deal, the Progressive Era, or even the Civil War.  The issues we are dealing with are not matters for genial debate.
