Attention YAL Chapters!

Is your YAL chapter hosting an event in the near future?

If so, we have the resources you need for your chapter to get media attention.

After you lock down the details for the event and get some good quotes, start writing a press release! We can then send it out to local media contacts.

Not sure how to write one? Here is a quick guide that will walk you through the process of writing a press release.  On the media and public relations page, you can also learn how to manage media contacts and write effective letters to the editor.

The sooner you write the release, the sooner I can help you. Don't wait until the last minute!

When you are finished crafting your press release using the guide, send it over to me at emily.oneill@yaliberty.org and I can start working with you!

Tax Day: YAL in the News

Check out this media coverage of YAL activism on tax day this year:

  • Colorado State's Eric Roche is asked what YAL strives for by The Rocky Mountain Collegian.
  • The Indiana Daily Student asks Indiana University @ Bloomington's Sam Spaiser his thoughts on the Tea Party movement.
  • Finally Jambar offers a great article about Youngstown State's YAL.

Tax Day Ideas: Post Office

This activism idea for Tax Day is an obvious one, yet really effective. There is no place on April 15th where you will find more people sympathetic to your cause than at your local post office (Tea Party events being an obvious exception). The post office is full of irritated, last-second tax payers and is a hot spot for local news.

  • Before you hold the event, send a press advisory to your local news outlets.  If you write the release, CampusReform.org will send it out for you for free to a complete media list for your area.
  • Canvass the area with anti-tax and YAL signs -- "Taking your money is bipartisan," for instance.
  • Hand out fliers about taxes and what your YAL group is about.
  • Get community members' contact info by using the YAL petition to repeal ObamaCare.

The petition, along with other exciting things going on in regards to Tax Day can be found here. Make sure you share your Tax Day activism ideas on the blog or with activism@yaliberty.org.

Re: Making the Campus Paper

Looking for a way to get your school paper to cover a YAL event on campus? With the recent success of MTSU making their campus's paper, Stephen Parvin is able to bestow a little wisdom on just how easy it can be.

For this, all we had to do was call the newspaper the morning of and inform them of the story.  They sent a reporter and a photographer, and the story made the front page of the print edition.

Give it a shot on your campus. You may be pleasantly surprised.
