Syria: A Roadblock to an Iran War

The U.S. suggests a “coalition of the willing” to intervene in Syria:

The United States proposed an international coalition to support Syria’s opposition Sunday after Russia and China blocked a U.N. attempt to end nearly 11 months of bloodshed, raising fears that violence will escalate. Rebel soldiers said force was now the only way to oust President Bashar Assad, while the regime vowed to press its military crackdown.

The threat of both sides turning to greater force after Russia and China vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution raises the potential for Syria’s turmoil to move into even a more dangerous new phase that could degenerate into outright civil war.

[…]

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton warned that chances for “a brutal civil war” would increase as Syrians under attack from their government move to defend themselves, unless international steps provide another way.

Just as it is in Libya, bloodshed is being used to justify even greater bloodshed. I suspect we will see a repeat of “We came, we saw, 30,000 Libyans died.”

Is Ron Paul "Anti-Semitic"?

Slander is standard in politics in politics, but ultra-loony blogger Pamela Geller goes too far this time. I'm quite sure most of you have heard of Gellar, who is best known for  actively bashing and demonizing those dirty Mooslims. I can't blame her, though -- everybody has to make some sort of a living.

Anyways, recently she has taken a very active role in falsely smearing both Ron and Rand Paul (especially since this year's CPAC).  Her outrage seems to have been triggered by the Pauls' support for a spending bill cutting off foreign aid to Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan and *whispers* Israel.

Geller took to her blog to disgustingly call both Ron and Rand Paul "imposters," while reserving the title of "notorious anti-Jewish state hater" for Ron.

Benjamin Netanyahu: Democracy's Biggest Fan?

Cross posted at Interest of the State.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once gave a speech entitled "Fighting Terrorism" at Ashland University. Little did "Bibi" know how relevant his words would be today. His speech was based off of Immanuel Kant's essay Perpetual Peace. Right off the bat, Netanyahu said:

He [Kant] said peace with democracies is automatic and it is self-sustaining. You need to do nothing to achieve it or to keep it. Democracies reflect the will of the majority, and most people do not want to go to war, and they do not want their children to die on battlefields. Democracies automatically tend toward peace.

If Netanyahu is such a firm believer in Kantian peace, then why are he and the Israeli government so nervous about Egyptians overthrowing their ruthless dictator of 30 years, Hosni Mubarak?

The Gaza Youth's "Manifesto for Change."

We are sick of being caught in this political struggle; sick of coal dark nights with airplanes circling above our homes; sick of innocent farmers getting shot in the buffer zone because they are taking care of their lands; sick of bearded guys walking around with their guns abusing their power, beating up or incarcerating young people demonstrating for what they believe in; sick of the wall of shame that separates us from the rest of our country and keeps us imprisoned in a stamp-sized piece of land; sick of being portrayed as terrorists, homemade fanatics with explosives in our pockets and evil in our eyes; sick of the indifference we meet from the international community, the so-called experts in expressing concerns and drafting resolutions but cowards in enforcing anything they agree on; we are sick and tired of living a shitty life, being kept in jail by Israel, beaten up by Hamas and completely ignored by the rest of the world.

I admire the anti-state, pro-peace, pro-liberty message of these youth. Please read this "manifesto" in its entirety before passing judgment.

N.B.: Slightly coarse English and rather crass profanity.

More Peace and Harmony Brought to You By Our Tax Dollars

This video is more proof of why we need to completely stop funding foreign governments and their criminal acts with our tax dollars. Countless incidents like this occur everyday within the occupied territories and too often they are not reported by the lame-stream media.

I don't care how "conservative" or "liberatrian" you are. If you still think we should send billions of dollars to other countries/governments, well then you basically advocate for a foreign aid style redistribution of wealth. It's time we put an end to this. It's hurting both Palestinians, the Israelis and of course it's hurting our credibility in the Middle East -- not that most of our elected officials care or anything.

Also, many of our elected officials are at times valiant and will attack other lobbying groups, but are too chicken to even mildly criticize AIPAC. AIPAC, the Saudi lobby, and many other foreign government endorsed lobbying groups have significant consequences to our foreign policy. Therefore, wouldn't it be the best thing to just end all foreign aid (and intervention) so these lobbying groups will not be as influential in our country and politics? I think so.

End the Gaza Blockade...for Israel's Sake?

That's the argument Ivan Eland of the Independent Institute makes in a new article:

As the United States should do with its ridiculously counterproductive embargo against Fidel Castro’s Cuba—which has used the U.S. sanctions as an external threat to win internal support and blame all of the island’s economic problems on the United States—Israel should dismantle all aspects of its counterproductive blockade, not just relax a ban on imports. Increased commerce among Gazans and among Gaza, Israel, and the world would undermine the Islamic radicalism on which Hamas prospers.

Our Sacred "Ally"

Why is Israel our ally? And why do their crimes, even against American citizens, go practically unnoticed?

Some of Israel's most friendly encounters with the US include:

  • The sinking of the USS Liberty that left 34 Americans dead and 171 wounded. Officially deemed an "accident," many of the survivors vehemently dispute this claim.
  • Their repeated spying on both government and corporate activities.
  • And now, the slaughter of an innocent, 19 year old American who was on a humanitarian aid mission.

But who does the American government stand up for? The Israelis of course! Joe Biden succinctly summarized American foreign policy in just a few words when asked about the Flotilla incident: "So, what's the big deal here?"
