Apparently Not

His own campaign site describes his stance:

Obama Opposed the War from the Beginning

Barack Obama opposed the war in Iraq before the American invasion. In 2002, Obama had the judgment and courage to speak out against the war, saying that it would lead to “an occupation of undetermined length, with undetermined costs and undetermined consequences." As president, Barack Obama will bring the war to a responsible end.

A story from Antiwar.com, however, tells a very different tale:

"“The special operations forces are not experiencing a drawdown in Iraq,” Olson insisted, adding that the 50,000 troops scheduled to stay behind would have a “continuing mission” to support their operations."

What is even more telling of Obama's unprincipled stance to war is that, "the administration never had any intention of stopping combat operations in August."  Many people had hope that Obama would actually follow through with his withdrawal because of his fiery rhetoric. Apparently not.

Jane Hamsher, Adam Kokesh to be interviewed for YAL!

I am lucky to have two great guests lined up for a special doubleheader edition of the "The Matt Cockerill Show" on Saturday.

First, Jane Hamsher of FireDogLake. Hamsher is a prominent voice in the progressive blogosphere who, like the principled Glenn Greenwald, has not kowtowed before any of President Obama's Bush-lite policies. In fact, she has gone so far as to compare his war escalation in Afghanistan to the War in Vietnam.*  I'm hoping to get Hamsher, who has been very respectful to the Ron Paul movement (even attending the 2008 rally for the Republic), to try to help form a left-right coalition in opposition to the corporatism, aggressive war, and civil liberties incursions of the ruling Republicrat duopoly.

Second is Adam Kokesh, a well known activist in the peace and liberty movement. As most of you know, Adam is currently seeking the Republican nomination for US Congress in New Mexico's 3rd district and is an antiwar Marine Corps veteran of Iraq. YAL cannot endorse candidates for public office, so talk about the election will have to be dispassionate and informative. However, I plan on asking him some interesting personal questions.

Uh-oh... I take on a professor's hypocrisy at WFU

This week in the Old Gold & Black, the official student newspaper of Wake Forest University (Go Deacs!--we're gunning for ya Kentucky), you will find four articles written by WFU YAL members. Yes, four. (*Note: titles are provided by the student paper, not the author)

  1. Protest the current government's policies (by yours truly)
  2. Government follows misguided economics (by Elliot Engstrom)
  3. Seven-year Iraq War doesn't benefit anyone (by Nathan Fox-Helser)

Numbers 1 and 3 are both about the current status of the United States' occupations abroad, while number 2 reflects not just the looting of the rich, but also the looting of the poor.

And lastly, but likely most controversial, you will find the fourth total article and second article written by myself that reflects the title of this post: Gov't intervention hinders "green" transformation.

Is anyone else Sick of seeing Cheney's Face Plastered on TV 24/7?

Here he is again, demanding that Biden and Obama take a healthy dose of "thank you George Bush" with regard to Iraq and demanding terrorist acts be treated not as crimes, but an "act of war" by the Obama Justice Department.

Security Forces Involved In Massive Attack In Baghdad

iraqDemocray at its best!

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Malaki accused members of the Iraqi Security Forces of being involved in last week's attacks. The attacks have left 127 people dead and 500+ wounded.

Malaki stated: "The network was a large one, 24 from one arm of the Iraqi security forces, 12 from another, and eight or nine from another."  Top officials have also been arrested after many of the attacks.

Despite security increases in Baghdad, the endless violence keeps continues and no one is exactly sure why.

Ted Kennedy R.I.P.

Let's be honest -- few if any people reading this blog hold Ted Kennedy in high esteem, and for good reason. An average person who did the things he did would not be fondly remembered.

But as it is proper to focus on the good things a person did in their life following their death, let's appreciate Ted Kennedy's role as an early and consistent critic of the aggressive war on Iraq.

More Anti-War than Ron Paul?

NC Republican Congressman Walter Jones has been, more or less, left off the table for discussion amongst fellow Republicans in the country; however, why has the liberty movement not rallied behind the message of non-interventionism portrayed by good ol' "Freedom Fries" Jones? He is, truly, amongst the most staunch opponents of foreign war and the r3VOLution could certainly use another Republican on our side on this issue of not only economic importance, but also of pure intrinsic human value.

In a recent interview with Adam Kokesh, Congressman Jones talks about his transformation from voting for the Iraq war, to voting against every piece of war-funding legislation since.

Your work, Congressman Jones, will no longer go unnoticed.

April in Iraq: Deadliest in 7 Months

Contrary to popular belief, the War in Iraq continues.  As U.S. forces make preparations to begin their withdrawal from Iraqi cities next month, death tolls are back on the rise.  The Anbar Awakening, Sons of Iraq, Concerned Local Citizens, or whatever other term is being used to describe the Sunni Iraqis that the U.S. government were paying to not shoot at U.S.

On the Anniversary...

Remember the Iraq War; let's not forget the human cost of war and all the related misery that comes as a result of it. I've seen little to no news media coverage of the anniversary of the Shock and Awe campaign and, to be honest, I find the lack of reporting on this truly sickening. However, Young Americans for Liberty is on the go. The Wake Forest chapter, last night, plastered their campus with a total of about 500 pages of the list of people killed due to the U.S. occupation of Iraq.
