Does anyone remember last year's Iranian presidential elections that spurred protests and upheavals over the fraudulent results? Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had beaten Mir Hossein Mousavi, but the Iranian people were none too pleased. 

Now, there is strife of a similar nature, but much more violent, in Thailand. The recent civil unrest in Thailand is attributed to a political split between the Democrat Party and National United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) whose followers are the infamous "red shirts." The red shirts have demanded that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva of the Democrat Party call new elections, but their requests have fallen upon a deaf ear. 

Last year during the Iranian debacle, many "conservative" commentators had called on President Obama to offer moral support and the backing of the United States to those who disputed the election results (most commonly referred to as the Green Movement). Their motives were hardly obscured, however. Quite frankly, none of them probably cared the least bit about the Iranian people. The real goal was to inspire regime change in the Islamic Republic. Mir Hossein Mousavi was seen as the more US friendly candidate (one that wanted to continue the nuclear program), and therefore he needed every tool in the regime change arsenal to be put into power. Ultimately, it failed. But with a disastrous record of trying to influence Iranian politics, the world is probably much better off that the US minded their own business.

The New York Times recently reported that Iran proposed a new deal with Brazil and Turkey in which the rogue state would “ship half of its nuclear fuel to Turkey.”

What’s the United States’s response? More sanctions. The Times continues to report that “rejecting the new deal, however, could make President Obama appear to be blocking a potential compromise.” And blocking a potential compromise he is indeed. The United States has been prodding a stick at an angry pit bull for half a century and seems to believe that doing so will make the pit bull (Iran) calm down and accept U.S. terms. What President Obama, his predecessors, and current State Department staff refuse to do, however, is put themselves in Iranian shoes.

When President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad repeatedly states that he is willing to negotiate and talk with the United States, perhaps the United States should be willing to negotiate and talk with the same country it has harassed for fifty years all because of an oil dispute in the 1950s. It’s as if the U.S. is doing whatever it can to prolong conflict and delay peace.

The war drum is slowly beating louder and louder. However, instead of being heard in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, it is being heard in Iran. The potential for a war with Iran is reaching a frightening point.

Newly released military contracts detail the US plan to "carry many thousands of military items from Concord, California, to Diego Garcia... [including] 195 smart, guided, Blu-110 bombs and 192 massive 2000lb Blu-117 bombs." These aren't your everyday missiles, either. A Blu-110 bomb is used "to penetrate hardened targets, bunkers, concrete walls, etc." The Blu 117 monsters are used for the same exact job. One can only guess what these "bunker busters" will be used for. Two of Iran's most important nuclear facilities, Natanz and Qom, are located underground. The US, one of the most vocal opponents of Iran's nuclear program, is hardly fooling anybody. This most recent shipment of bombs is in preparation for attacking Iran and destroying its nuclear facilities.
