In Picking "super Congress," Harry Reid Favors Insiders

It was a decisive victory for Washington insiders against the more principled progressive members of the Senate. Senate majority leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced his three choices for the first-ever "super" committee that will draw up a plan for resolving the nation's fiscal situation. Those Senate Democrats are Patty Murray (WA), Max Baucus (MT) and John Kerry (MA). All three have decades-long careers in Washington, all three voted for the PATRIOT Act, and yes, all three voted for increased spending in the Iraq war.

Senator Harry Reid

Reid is certainly not interested in Senator Bernie Sanders (VT), who blames much of the nation's fiscal problems on the Federal Reserve. Reid also ignored Senator Jeff Merkley (OR) who assumed office in 2009 and opposed the corporate banking bailouts that were allegedly designed to repair the U.S. economy.

Great video by Harry Reid arguing against raising the debt ceiling(?!)

Sen. Harry Reid made a great argument, in 2006, on why we must vote against raising the debt ceiling:

"Most Americans know that increasing debt is the last thing we should be doing."

"Economists will tell you we should be reducing debt, not increasing it."

"We're being asked to do what shouldn't be asked of us, to increase the debt to almost $9 trillion."

In addition to the quotes above, he cites multiple presidents, and lectures those who might think raising the debt ceiling is a good idea in just one of several speeches he gave on why we shouldn't raise the debt ceiling.

Of course, the old Harry Reid used to be an active proponent of auditing the federal reserve as well.

Too bad THAT Harry Reid couldn't go into the future and lecture THIS Harry Reid.

The PATRIOT Act Revisited

Three provisions to the PATRIOT Act are due to expire at the end of this month. They are (courtesy of DownsizeDC.org):

1. Business Records: allows searches on your personal data without
your knowledge if the FBI convinces a judge it is "relevant" to a
terrorism investigation. The data could be computer-related,
financial, medical, or even your library check-out history

2. Lone Wolf: allows the federal government to spy on a foreign
person with no known ties to a foreign government or terrorist group
-- a power that's never been used

3. Roving Wiretap: allows federal agents to intercept phone
conversations without having to specify the person being investigated
or which phone is being used

Some are reporting that the new jobs bill being drafted by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid includes the renewal of the PATRIOT Act.  But these draconian provisions don't need to be passed again!

Reid May Lose Reelection

Harry Reid is facing tough opposition back home.

A recent poll showed 52% of Nevadans with an unfavorable opinion of Mr. Reid. He is trailing three potential Republican opponents, according to the poll commissioned by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, garnering just 40% against each. On Tuesday, political analyst Stuart Rothenberg moved Mr. Reid's Nevada Senate seat from the "toss-up" category to "lean takeover" in favor of the Republicans.

Well, what do you expect when you try to pass a health care bill that only a minority of Americans support?

Re: Cloture Vote on Obamacare

I'm up late watching CNN's surprisingly critical coverage of the party-line passage of the cloture bill on debate regarding the "health reform," bill in the Senate. I think their ire may be coming for all the wrong reasons, (establishmentarian David Gergen is whining about how the lack of 'bipartisanship' in the "historic" bill defiles the nation state he worships) though I appreciate it nonetheless.

But what irritated me most tonight was watching  pro-war Democreep Senators lecture those opposed to the bill about "human rights," and doing things "on principle," regardless of undesirable consequences.  Harry Reid claimed that his conscience is too strong to "look away," when people die from their lack of health care, but he certainly managed to do so when he voted for Bush's war of aggression on Iraq and the resultant mass murder of innocents. You make me sick, Harry -- and your awful "health reform" hasn't even been implemented yet!

By the way, isn't it sleazy how the Dems are trying to ram through this incredibly expensive bill through over the Holiday Season, with the final version perhaps coming on Christmas Eve? This is politics as usual, not change.

Conflict on the Hill: Healthcare

Am I the only one who takes explicit joy in watching Joe Lieberman frustrate those mangey Democrats' attempt to socialize our healthcare industry? I think it's great, and I hope he keeps it up. While I certainly don't agree with Lieberman's fix, it's nice to see more and more division within the Congress. It just warms the cockles of my heart. The longer there is division, the better chance we have of beating this bill!

Lieberman left Reid right

Harry Reid Compares opponents of ObamaCare to Supporters of Slavery

What classless race baiting... Is this dude really so desperate for attention, in light of the much more telegenic and articulate Obama running the show?

Though my biggest beef with Mr. Reid is his personal sanctioning of mass murder, I can't imagine why this "slavery" rhetoric is considered responsible and civil by the state-friendly media --that is, the same guys who demonize Paulians, libertarians, Constitutionalists, and anyone else opposed to the government's wars, theft, and politicians as "extremist."
