Uh-oh... I take on a professor's hypocrisy at WFU

This week in the Old Gold & Black, the official student newspaper of Wake Forest University (Go Deacs!--we're gunning for ya Kentucky), you will find four articles written by WFU YAL members. Yes, four. (*Note: titles are provided by the student paper, not the author)

  1. Protest the current government's policies (by yours truly)
  2. Government follows misguided economics (by Elliot Engstrom)
  3. Seven-year Iraq War doesn't benefit anyone (by Nathan Fox-Helser)

Numbers 1 and 3 are both about the current status of the United States' occupations abroad, while number 2 reflects not just the looting of the rich, but also the looting of the poor.

And lastly, but likely most controversial, you will find the fourth total article and second article written by myself that reflects the title of this post: Gov't intervention hinders "green" transformation.

The Global Warming Boogeyman

As if the cold days and snowstorms in February weren't enough! Here is a list of other things attributable to global warming:

If you read anything today...

Make it Jack Hunter's  balanced, intellectually honest piece about "climate change." Despite "conventional wisdom" and the desire for establishment Repubs and "cosmo libertarians" to shy away from this issue to remain "respectable" to the elite, it is OK to question the Al Gore Cult on this issue.

Whole Foods CEO John Mackey Speaking Out Again

wholefoods

Whole Foods CEO, John Mackey, is speaking up again. He is one of many prominent libertarian-minded voices that has decided to enter the spotlight and open himself up for criticism. This time it's on the subject of government involvement in climate change and Mackey's disapproval of current proposals.  This comes despite his Whole Foods stores' notoriety of being proactive in the environmental movement. However, according to Mackey, the climate change hype is not supported by sound science.

An article by an independent blogger was published on the Huffington Post yesterday admonishes Mackey's nerve to take issue with climate change science. He notes how he's often fought for Mackey in defense of Whole Foods, but after Mackey's lashing out against universal health care and now climate change, he's lost all patience.

Read the article here.

I chose to engage with a few commenters at the Huffington Post. Read a few of my comments after the jump. Will others follow John Mackey's lead? I hope so.

Facebook Quote of the Year

In statistics class, students learn that results can be biased if a biased organization funds research that has a material impact on the organization's revenue.  In expressing my reluctance to support all claims put forth by Al Gore, I joined a fanpage on Facebook to discuss "Climategate."  After a conversation about the topic with a friend on Facebook, my friend produced the quote of the year (in my opinion):

If you can't trust state funded scientists, who can you trust?

Uhhh... government's response to climate change is not revenue neutral.  In fact, most of what research organizations subsidized by taxpayers say happens to generate more revenue for themselves.  In other words, government-funded research can hardly be considered unbiased.

Anyone else have a similar quote?

Lindsey Graham Bows To Climate Change

linIt's obvious Graham has no principles.

Conservative Republican (sarcasm) Lindsey Graham embraces the entire Climate Change hoax.  He has decided to join Senators John Kerry and Joe Lieberman to support a bill that would tax heat trapping pollution. Graham claims that he was fully convinced when he listend to the scientists talk about the causes and effects of greenhouse gases in his trip to the Arctic region with John MCcain and Hillary Clinton. He also seemed to show little concern over his highly critical Republican collegues.

You can find the jaw-dropping article and his tedious interview with the AP  here.

Climate Chaos In Copenhagen

Copama"You don't have to use that kind of violence to be heard," said Danish Minister Connie Hedegaard, condemning the violence that occured in Copenhagen.

Massive demonstrations in Copenhagen has lead to riot police arrest nearly 1,000 demonstrators. This demonstration was to mark the " Day of Action."

Many of the demonstators were seen throwing bottles and even smashing windows. Other incidents included cars set on fire. (WAIT! Cars set on fire? Now won't that just hurt the environment?)

Population Control: China's Solution to Global Warming

In the following link, China reveals what no doubt all other government bodies are thinking about this global warming issue. What an incredible opportunity. After all, as Rahm Emmanuel said so revealingly, "Never waste a good crisis." What's the inevitable conclusion to all this fear mongering? The government must step into the fictitious shoes of superman and "save the world."

We have already seen the government intervene within the economy to make things "greener," such as subsidizing ethanol, passing excessive regulations on automobiles, setting federal speed limits with the EPA (further limiting state powers,) and many other disgraceful attempts to control "dangerous human behavior."

However, it's not enough that they control our behavior, now it's important they decide who has the right to live, and who doesn't.
