Where Has All The Logic Gone?

Today, Ruth Marcus wrote an article in which she somehow reasons that Congress has the authority to mandate individuals to buy insurance. She advocates two "Constitutional" modes of doing so: the always "reliable," Commerce Clause and the power of Congress to tax. She goes on to say:

If you arrive uninsured at an emergency room, that has ripple effects through the national economy -- driving up costs and premiums for everyone. If you choose to go without insurance, that limits the size of the pool of insured individuals and -- assuming you are young and healthy -- drives up premium costs.

Taken to its logical extreme, Ms. Marcus' logic implies that Congress has the power to control everything Americans do with their money.

A "new normal": long-term higher joblessness and lower standards of living

Ah, long-term unemployment and lower standards of living, that's the Left's goal: spread the misery and mediocrity of the Third World to America.

New Normal

From the AP:

Even with an economic revival, many U.S. jobs lost during the recession may be gone forever and a weak employment market could linger for years.

That could add up to a "new normal" of higher joblessness and lower standards of living for many Americans, some economists are suggesting.

The words "it's different this time" are always suspect. But economists and policy makers say the job-creating dynamics of previous recoveries can't be counted on now.

Obama, Central Planning, and the Absence of Real Change

I recently decided to put my thoughts down on paper about President Obama's relationship to central planning and authoritarianism, and the complete lack of actual change under the current administration.  Check it out below and see if you agree, I'd love to hear any comments/critiques, as I'm once again going to be assaulting the student newspaper here at Wake Forest with weekly editorials once school starts up again in the fall, and I'm always looking for the best way to get across ideas about the real nature of our government.
