Rep. Alan Grayson on America's Longest War

On Sunday, the War in Afghanistan topped all other conflicts in American history to become our longest war (assuming, of course, you don't count all the years of uneasy ceasefire in Korea).  Alan Grayson, a Democrat from Florida whose ideas on the Fed and foreign policy tend to be as good as his domestic policy is bad, writes about this landmark in the Huffington Post:

The war in Afghanistan is over eight years old. And we're sending in more troops. We're not getting out. We getting deeper in. Would you like to know why? It's not hard to find the answers. Just read the transcript of Osama Bin Laden's 2004 speech - right here.

Bin Laden's strategy was -- and is -- painfully simple: to repeat his victory in Afghanistan against Russia, by driving us into bankruptcy....It turns out that Bin Laden has a keen grasp of the federal budget: "As for the size of the economic deficit, it has reached record astronomical numbers estimated to total more than a trillion dollars." ....

And at all times, Bin Laden's essential strategy has remained the same. Not, as so many think, to launch more attacks on American soil, but rather to make us destroy ourselves: "we are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy . . . ."

Listen to Bin Laden summing up his strategy: "the real loser is ... you. It is the American people and their economy . . . ."

Read Grayson's full piece on our longest war here.

UPDATE:  Arguably the Vietnam War was still longer than Afghanistan?  It depends on how you date the older conflict:  Eisenhower sent advisors over as early as 1955, and the first American death is dated to 1957.  Using either of those dates would easily keep Vietnam in first place.  But does it matter how we count?

Of course, the answer to this question says more about how we view the Vietnam War than it really does about Afghanistan and, in the end, whether Afghanistan is now the longest war, or still only our second-longest war, doesn’t really matter in the end. We’ve still got the same strategic problems there that we had yesterday, so slapping a new label on the war isn’t really all that important.

MSNBC: "Fed is godfather to the greatest cover up in the history of this country"

Yeah, you read that header right. Plain and simple, right during broadcasting hours, Dylan Ratigan of MSNBC states about the Fed:

We are getting closer to fully exposing the greatest con and cover up in the history of this country. It involves our banks, the Federal Reserve, our Congress and, of course, you and me. First, though, think of the Fed as the godfather in this con.

Oh, but Ratigan goes even further; you have to check out the video below and share it with someone who may not yet be convinced of the public ponzi-scheme that is the bailouts, cheap money, inflation, and the accursed Federal Reserve.

Mainstream media is powerful -- the commoner starts with them. When they actually do something right, make sure to leverage it. Spread the word, the masses are waking...

Alan Grayson: "We Won in Iraq & Afghanistan!"

I wish this guy was in step with the liberty movement because on issues we agree on no one makes more convincing arguments.

Two new antiwar videos from Alan Grayson

His unfortunate hesitancy to openly criticize Obama aside, Grayson is just as articulate a speaker against the immoral, unconstitutional, and unnecessary war in Afghanistan as he is against the (immoral, unconstitutional, and unnecessary) Fed

Check out these two new videos, posted on his Twitter this evening:

Passage of Paul-Grayson Amendment is Epic Victory for Liberty

Glenn Greenwald has a great take on the passage of the Paul-Grayson Amendment reviving HR1207.

I have to admit I was rather cynical when the state-friendly Mel Watt version was passed. I thought HR1207 was history, as I'm sure many of you did.

It is not hyperbole, then, for Greenwald to say:

"A congressionally mandated audit that The Fed (and much of the DC establishment) desperately oppose would be a serious step towards changing the dynamic of how things function. At the very least, it would provide an important template for defeating the interests which, in Washington, almost never lose. At least yesterday, those interests did lose -- resoundingly -- and the importance of that should not be overlooked.

Ron Paul Calls for Delay in Bernanke Confirmation

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Representatives Paul and Grayson are requesting Chairman Bernanke's confirmation be delayed in the Senate:

In a letter they will send to Senate Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd this afternoon, Reps. Ron Paul (R., Tex.) and Alan Grayson (D., Fla.) will ask that the Senate hold off on Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s confirmation hearing until the central bank releases more information about its rescues.
