CPAC 2010 Sumo Championship

Sixty-Four contestants 'Belly'd up to Big Government' and took part in YAL's CPAC Sumo YAL SumoWrestling Tournament on Friday, February 19th at the Marriott Wardman Hotel in Washington, D.C.   It was an incredibly fun and popular event and literally hundreds of people participated in open wrestling throughout the weekend against "Big Government", portrayed by 'Big Sis' Janet Napolitano.

The event was covered by many major media outlets, and even made it live on Fox News:

Why you -- yes YOU! -- should come to CPAC with the rest of us

I am traveling to the evil city of Washington D.C. this Wednesday. But I will not be skippin' skool to interview for a "job" at the IRS, Pentagon, or any of the other well-known criminal syndicates occupying the city. Rather, I will be promoting libertarian ideals with the other pro-peace, pro-market youth at CPAC -- America's premier conservative political conference -- and I really hope you come too!

Yes, we will still be vastly outnumbered by the statists at CPAC. But if you're anything like me,  crashing the neocons' party makes activism all the more fun. Indeed, based last year's experience, as well as this year's vastly improved CPAC itinerary, I am confident this will be the libertarian experience of the century. If you think that's hyperbole, consider the following gems from the three-day conference's schedule:

Stamp Act at IUK

Most of you are probably too young to remember the stamp act of 1765, but we fought a revolution over it.  Interestingly, Indiana University-Kokomo is restricting political speech by taking down clearly temporary signs that advertised a book club my YAL group hosted a few hours ago (books provided by Students for Liberty).

Our book club was assigned to a room that is far from where students normally tread, so I quickly made up signs with arrows to point the way.  An art teacher was going to attend, but he said he didn't want to have to search the entire campus to find the place.

After finishing the good discussions we had about Mises, we left, taking down signs as we walked.  When I couldn't find any signs I just assumed that a group member had reached them before I could.

Upon arriving home I get this e-mail:

FYI in case you might have missed this when we sent it. I know we sent it over break and sometimes things might get lost of the shuffle. You’ll probably notice that most of your signs have been removed. Anything that’s posted incorrectly and/or not stamped is removed. Thanks.

Get Excited! We are Making a difference in the struggle towards peace and liberty.

Disgusting, dehumanizing euphemisms aside, Vance is correct in asserting that the American People's uncritical military-worship allows the US state to get away with all sorts of atrocities overseas.

Take, for example, this sort of thing. The US government's "abandoned," landmines continue to kill innocents in Vietnam even to this day. The murderer-in-chief is by necessity a numbers-guy and "pragmatist," that won't bother to think about such things in lieu of his "grand vision." So it's not surprising that he's refusing to sign an international treaty   banning the use of  landmines in general.

The only way the politicians--both foreign and domestic-- will stop the murder is public opposition, which will require  a young, romantic, impassioned, and informed group of Americans to change the minds of their countrymen.

Getting in bed with Mel Watt & the Fed

When we get in bed... with Mel Watt & the Fed... We have to expect... the disease they spread... HONK TO AUDIT THE FED!

MelWattBed

This little tactic, among a wealth of others courtesy of the Leadership Institute, is known as Operation Burmashave. Gotta love student innovation!

The above photo is from the Charlotte "End the Fed" rally on 11/22/09--designed by Wake Forest Young Americans for Liberty.

IUK "Are We Rebuilding The Wall?" Footage

For many at Indiana University-Kokomo, this was the first time the word "Communism" was brought to the forefront of their attention.  Some didn't know what Communism is or was, some didn't care, but many were happy that we were demonstrating and took the time to take over 100 YAR magazines and 400 fliers off our hands.  With a school population of about 3,000, we probably exposed over half to our demonstration.

We had 3 peices of plywood making up our wall.  The first piece contained the 10 planks of communism according to Marx.  The second board was spray painted with interventionist policies and institutions that create borders to freedom.  The final piece was the ironic "pick your favorite dictator" panel in which 11 dictators in the million plus club (people killed under them) were displayed as a demonstration against what political walls do to constituencies.
