It's back to school! Let's grow!
Right now through CPAC (February 10-12) you have the opportunity to join fellow YAL chapters all across the country in a recruitment drive to expand chapter and national membership. This is an exciting time with significant opportunities ahead, especially with YAL's Year of Youth project leading up to the 2012 elections.
Here's how you can get involved:
- If you are not a YAL dues-paying member yet, get yourself a free t-shirt and join YAL for $10 right now.
- Join or start a YAL chapter on your campus. It's very easy to get started here.
Once you take these first steps, it is time to recruit and grow your chapter.
The Successful Recruitment Strategy Guide & Checklist
To help you become an effective activist and chapter leader, YAL has created a "Successful Recruitment Strategy Guide". This guide was prepared specifically for YAL chapters and outlines tested stratagies to help you prepare and execute an effective recruitment drive.
- Access the guide online: The Successful Recruitment Strategy Guide & Checklist [Download the PDF]
- Browse the YAL Resources page on the website for more information and ideas.
- Find creative ideas from other YAL chapters in Spring 2010 Report and Fall 2010 Report.
As you read through this information, be sure that you write down notes, ideas, and plans for your chapter. The "Checklist" at the end of the guide will walk you through specific questions and action items, so you will be prepared fully.

Want to earn some $$$ for your chapter?
YAL wants to reward the most innovative and effective chapters this month. Winning chapters will receive an Activism Grant, five YAL t-shirts, and recognition at CPAC 2011. The deadline to enter the contest is now Friday, February 25th, at 11:59 PM.
To enter your chapter in the contest, document your recruitment efforts and post pictures, videos, news articles, and descriptions of your activities to the YAL blog or email a report to contact@yaliberty.org. Here are the three prizes:
- First Prize: $300, 5 YAL t-shirts
- Second Prize: $200, 5 YAL t-shirts
- Third Prize: $100, 5 YAL t-shirts
Here is the contest judging criteria you should consider:
- Most new recruits to join your chapter and the national organization. Download and print the YAL sign-up form to register new activists and encourage them to join at www.yaliberty.org/join. The size of your student population will be weighted against the number of new recruits, so smaller schools will not be at a disadvantage.
- Best recruitment table. Take pictures and video of your recruitment activities on campus. Capture the excitement and interest on campus. Check out this great video produced by the YAL chapter at the University of North Texas.
- Best "Informational" or "Call Out" meeting. How many interested students can you recruit to attend your first semester meetings? How do you present the message of liberty and YAL to new recruits? Take pictures and video of the presentations and overall turn out at your meetings.
- Best promotional flyers and handouts. We are looking for the creative, clear, and easy-to-understand materials that recruit the most amount of students to the youth liberty movement. Include your flyers and handouts in your chapter report. More resources and information on how to host an effective meeting is available in the Successful Recruitment Strategy Guide & Checklist.
- Most media coverage. Gather press contacts, write and send a press release, and follow up with phone calls to reporters. Chapters that earn media attention reach a much wider audience and greater respect on campus. Include links to your media coverage in your report.
Note: Not every item is required to win the contest. YAL chapters will be judged on their overall performance. Your entry must be posted on the YAL blog or emailed to contact@yaliberty.org by Friday, February 25 to be eligible.
