We write a lot here on the YAL blog about how President Obama has built on the Bush record when it comes to civil liberties and foreign policy, and this chart shows he's doing to same on the economic front. Without question, Obama inherited a bad economic situation, and his interventionist policies and growth of government have only made things worse.

March Activism Event: Visualize the Debt

Calling all YAL chapters!

Did you know that the national debt increased more in the last 10 years than the first two centuries of our history combined?

Did you know that you could spend $443,937 every second for a year and still not spend as much as the U.S. national debt?

Did you know that each and every taxpayer owes nearly $130,000 to pay off the national debt?

Did you know that this is your future?

You and I must bring attention to our government's radical spending spree! The enormity of this situation is only getting worse and our generation will soon face the dire consequences.

To educate students and send notice to elected officials, YAL is organizing a national activism event for this month: "Visualize the Debt." YAL's effort to "Visualize the Debt" will personalize and make real the true cost of our government's reckless spending to a new generation of Americans!

We are calling on all YAL chapters across the country to create a GIANT display on their campuses during the last week of this month -- March 28 - April 1 -- to help students visualize the size and scale of the federal debt.

To incite some friendly competition and encourage you to organize the best debt display in the country, YAL National will award cash prizes to chapters which best carry out their events. All entries should be posted on the blog or submitted to contact@yaliberty.org by April 15.

First place will win $500 in cash for their chapter; second place will win $250; and third place will win $100 -- not to mention all the bragging rights!

CPAC 2011: A Victory for Liberty

We did it! AGAIN!

This past weekend at CPAC 2011, the largest annual conservative conference in the country, Young Americans for Liberty mobilized more than 700 students to join us in Washington, DC and send a loud and clear message to the political establishment: Your time is up. Restore the Constitution!

With the largest vote total in the conference's history, Congressman Ron Paul won the 2012 Presidential Straw Poll for the second year in a row.

At least 11,000 conservatives attended CPAC 2011 -- another record-breaker for CPAC.

The facts speak for themselves: The liberty movement is the most active and fastest growing political force in the country.

So I ask you: Are you ready to rise up in 2012?!?

Thanks to your generous contributions and student sponsorships, YAL helped many poor college students offset their traveling costs so they could make it to CPAC. I spoke with these students, and I can tell you firsthand that this conference was a life-changing experience for them. Thank you for contributing.

YAL Press Release in Response to YAF

Ron Paul Youth Organization Responds to YAF

ARLINGTON, VA – After Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) expelled Congressman Ron Paul from their advisory board this past weekend at CPAC, Young Americans for Liberty (YAL), a youth organization founded in 2008 as the continuation of Students for Ron Paul, expressed their deep disappointment in YAF.

“It's disappointing to see YAF align itself more closely to President Obama than Ron Paul,” said Jeff Frazee, Ron Paul's 2008 National Youth Coordinator and Executive Director of YAL.

“YAF's members and supporters should be concerned about the priorities and direction of their once-active organization. This is either a shallow publicity stunt or YAF's leadership has abandoned their philosophical underpinnings,” Frazee went on to say.

Minutes after Ron Paul was announced the winner of the 2011 CPAC presidential straw poll, YAF's Senior National Director Jordan Marks distributed a press release stating YAF is “more aligned with Obama” than Ron Paul. “It's obvious YAF lacks mature leadership right now,” Frazee responded. “These remarks are distasteful and have no place in civil discourse. If they want to have a debate on foreign policy, then we would be happy to set up a forum. But to use these words in an official press release is childish. Again, if I was a member of their organization, I would be concerned.”

YAF's press release was an attempt to attack Congressman Paul's foreign policy positions – the same positions he held when he was awarded the Guardian of Freedom award, YAF's top honor.

Additionally, YAF's actions were not without consequence. YAF's Intern Coordinator, Adam Wood, submitted his resignation letter in protest shortly after the statement was issued. In his statement Wood said, “I can no longer hold the position of Intern Coordinator at Young Americans for Freedom due to the Board of Directors' ignorant and divisive acts against Congressman Ron Paul... they have caused a divide in the organization that will result in a decrease in members and donors.”

Young Americans for Liberty is the continuation of Students for Ron Paul with an active network of more than 180 chapters and 26,000 activists committed to the principles of individual liberty and the U.S. Constitution. For more information visit: www.yaliberty.org.

Recruitment Week Spring 2011

It's the start of a new semester, which means it's time for recruitment!

This post walks you through five steps to accomplish a successful start to a new semester:

Right now is the best time to find freshmen and interested students looking for a way to get involved on campus.

How do you make this happen? YAL has put together a simple web page to get you started. First, take out a pen and paper or open a text document on your computer, and outline your ideas for the semester.

Two years ago today, YAL officially launched with Congressman Ron Paul's endorsement, a new website, a new logo, an email to the Ron Paul 2008 list, and our first online donation. The continuation of Students for Ron Paul had begun!

The TEA Party Is Over

“The elections are over,” said an Establishment, inside-the-beltway, Republican to me last week.

“The TEA Party depends on the Republican Party now,” he said. “The angry citizens will go back to their everyday lives, and we will continue run the agenda.”

Luckily for us, it's not up to him -- it's up to you and me.

You and I have fought too hard to build this movement over these past three years! I will not roll over and have some Republican hack tell me we're finished!

But you see, this is exactly how Washington works.

Just like your job is to go back to school, take care of your family, be productive at work, or run your own business, their full-time job is to find a way to maintain the status quo in Washington.

“The elections are over,” they say. “Go home, TEA Party!”

Have you been through airport security lately?

There are some issues that should transcend left vs. right, conservative vs. liberal, and libertarianism vs. statism. This is one of those issues.

It doesn't matter where you come from on the political spectrum, all Americans should oppose this disgusting and corrupt behavior.

How long will you and I continue to accept this?

TSA has once again enhanced (in a big way) their security measures. When you go through airport security now, prepare for a full-body scanner or receive a very intimate pat down from a complete stranger. Choose your option or you do not fly.

Be ready, because more and more people are being called over to the the strip-search machine. And based on the steady growth of big-brother at the airport, I am willing to bet that it is only a matter of time before EVERYONE goes through the the full-body scanner. "Ultimately, the agency plans to have the new machines replace metal detectors at all of the roughly 2,000 airport checkpoints." [source]

Let me show you your NEW options for airport security.

First, you will be offered the full-body scanner. And, no, you will not be told why you were chosen for this enhanced screening. You will obey or you will not fly.

Here is a picture of what you will be subjected to:

This WILL BE you, your grandmother, your girlfriend, your little sister, your parents, and everyone else.

If you refuse to expose yourself to an armed government agent, you only have one other option -- the full-body groping.

According to this report, "TSA confirms breasts and genital areas could also be subject to the open hand pat downs."

Watch the Colbert Report to see how these government agents run their hands over and past very sensitive areas.

Quite frankly, it's gross. It's disturbing. And it's everything Americans should detest.

Young Americans for Liberty is going to look into more ways to defend your basic human right to privacy. Fondling grandma and your little sister does not make you safer.
