I was not on hand for this event, unfortunately, but the Ridley Report put together an amazing video:

Ron Paul packed the house with a crowd of 600 people; one member of the audience said it was standing room only.

March 28, 2011 -- North Carolina State University

The day that North Carolina State hosted Congressman Paul was the kick-off of Visualize the Debt -- and what a way to kick it off! I arrived on the campus of NC State that morning to see the giant debt display and YAL members promoting Ron Paul's speech to be given that evening and talking to collegues about the massive debt. There was also something I saw on campus that I had never seen before, a free speech tunnel: students are allowed to paint or write anything they want in this tunnel. The NC State chapter took it upon themselves to paint the entire tunnel with promotions for the event.

Tornadoes and Dime-Sized Hail are No Match for Liberty in Mississippi

On Wednesday April 20, 2011, I was given the distinct pleasure of hosting Congressman Ron Paul at my alma mater, Mississippi State University.

As I woke up that morning I was greeted with the sound of thunder. Ben Weinberg, MSU chapter president, and I were worried about the number of people that would show up to the event that night. To clear my head of these distractions, I drove around the dreary but normally beautiful town of Starkville and waited for Congressman Paul to arrive. When I showed up to the airport to pick up him and his entourage, I was informed that lightning had struck the runway and cracked a portion of it. I had heard of lightning splitting trees in half but never a runway.

From the airport we drove to campus for his book signing. Once we got to the Barnes & Noble, our plans went out the window but thankfully, everything went smoothly. Over the course of an hour over 150 people came to have Congressman Paul's new book Liberty Defined.

After the book signing ended the weather started to worsen; tornado sirens were going off regularly, even right up to the start of the event. A funnel cloud was forming in the distance and dime-sized hail fell from the sky.

The press availability was intended to start at 5:30, however the press showed up early due to the weather. Also as a result, the press event went from a press-only event to a room full of students; the Dawg House was allegedly the safest place in the Colvard Student Union. After the press was done asking questions the students in the room applauded Dr. Paul for his honest and principled answers.

Mississippi State Visualize the debt

Funds for the national YAL’s “Visualize the Debt” campaign were received in mid-March of 2011. These funds were used to purchase the supplies necessary to produce a 48-foot long debt clock that was displayed on the campus of Mississippi State University on March 29, 2011.

Construction of the debt clock took place the week following the funds being obtained over good political talk and a few beverages.

On March 29, 2011, the MSU Chapter of YAL set up the gigantic display outside of the school’s Colvard Student Union. The day was dreary and was threatening rain, but participants pushed through the inclement weather to make the local evening news (WCBI coverage) along with gathering approximately 450 signatures.

MGCCC's Visualize the Debt event was also covered by the local news and received a write up. Below is member Jeremy Peterson being interviewed by a local radio station.

MGCCC collected over 70 signatures telling Rep. Palazzo to get serious about the national debt.

Ron Paul's upcoming visit to Mississippi State makes headlines

As The Hill put it, Ron Paul will soon speak on Haley Barbour's home turf. With Paul making several stops in his spring college tour this month, he will have had a very busy April -- despite having not yet announced whether or not he'll run for president. While not a major player in primary voting, Mississippi will throw a twist as outgoing Governor Haley Barbour is expected to make a run for the White House. Will Ron Paul ruffle the feathers of the Mississippi GOP or will his philosophy of liberty win over the hearts and minds of the masses of Mississippi?

Ron Paul at Mississippi State University

Young Americans for Liberty at Mississippi State University is happy to announce that Dr. Ron Paul will be speaking in Bettersworth Auditorium in Lee Hall this April. Please bring your family and friends to join YAL at Ron Paul’s first official visit to the great state of Mississippi!

Following YAL’s guide to hosting Ron Paul, MSU YAL members collected more than 2,200 signatures over the course of three months of petitioning.

Chapter President Ben Weinberg had this to say: “Eight months ago this seemed like a pipe dream, but petitioning for Ron Paul to speak on campus was a great recruitment tool and now that he is actually coming to speak, I want as many people to join the organization as possible.”

Ben went on to speak about upcoming activism events his chapter is planning, “We’re going to take part in the YAL National activism event Visualize the Debt on March 30th and currently working on something for April. We will also be tabling at least twice a week to prepare for the Ron Paul speaking event.”

Mississippi State University Chapter Report

Unfortunately, our chapter is afraid of cameras. So the only pictures for this semester are of Constitution Day/World's Smallest Political Quiz. On September 17, MSU YAL held constitution day along with the worlds smallest political quiz. We passed out around 100 Constitutions to those who seemed interested. We recruited many people to take the quiz and those who scored "libertarian" were asked to sign up for Young Americans for Liberty.
