YAL's Texas State Convention Report
Mar 5, 2013 at 2:24 PM
Last weekend, Young Americans for Liberty hosted our second state convention in Arlington, Texas! This convention was even larger than our first one in North Carolina, with 156 activists packing the room to hear from speakers like Jack Hunter, Congressman Steve Stockman, and even Senator Rand Paul!
The convention, which was held on Texas Independence Day, covered everything from political philosophy to electoral politics. After we started off our morning with words from the YAL national staff, pundit and author Jack Hunter spoke about current events, with special guest Senator Rand Paul Skyping in:
We also heard from our 12 generous sponsors. They ranged from local to national organizations, and provided excellent networking opportunities for the students in attendance.
If you are a student or recent graduate who is interested in finding work in the liberty movement, the opportunity to network with pro-liberty organizations is another great reason to make time to attend one of our eight remaining State Conventions. It's not every day you get such a unique opportunity to jump-start your career in politics!
After the lunch break, we had two consecutive lectures from grassroots expert Chris Doss of the Leadership Institute. He advised the audience on messaging tactics and the best ways to make a difference in politics:
The afternoon was devoted to panels that specifically dealt with youth activism and the current state of the liberty movement in Texas. We heard from leaders from Students for Liberty, a few members of YAL national staff, a former staffer for Senator Ted Cruz, and Texas grassroots leaders:
We wrapped up the evening with words from State Rep. Bill Zedler and Congressman Steve Stockman, who both expanded upon the concerns addressed by our panelists.

We’re just getting started, so there are still plenty of opportunities left to attend a YAL convention in your area. Click here to see our full schedule for the spring. There are still eight conventions scheduled for this semester, and we would love to see you there!
Many thanks to our Texas leadership team for putting this convention together, and to our speakers and sponsors for spending their weekend inspiring our attendees to their best activism yet.
