Best “Taxed to Death” Pumpkin Explosion

(Pumpkin) SPICE up your tabling events this month with the “Taxed to Death” Pumpkin Explosion event! We all know taxation is theft, so take this opportunity (and contest) to show just how deadly taxation can be. The pumpkin represents the American taxpayer and the rubber bands the excessive taxes and regulations we face.

What do you need?

Approximately 200+ rubber bands (large size and stretchy!)
1 medium/large sized pumpkin
A good sized list of topical taxes! (Tip: go general like “income tax” or “sales tax”, or get specific with your state!)
YAL merch & tabling gear
Video recording ability

How to?

Set up your table with YAL gear and “Taxed to Death” supplies
Prep the pumpkin with some rubber bands to get it started
At the table, invite others to place a rubber band around the pumpkin, and let them know this represents the taxes the American people face!
Tip: Make sure someone signs your interest sheet before placing a rubber band– this will help you grow your chapter
Record the final moment before the pumpkin explodes! Set it up moments before you hit 200 rubber bands or take a timelapse video!

What do you need?

How to?

Display your graveyard next to a recruitment table to show your fellow students all the civil rights that have died at the hands of government overreach, such as:

Your privacy, killed by the Patriot Act in 2001
Your right to bear arms, constantly under attack,
Choice of Healthcare, 2010,
And many more, come up with your own creative ideas!

This is a great way to bring attention to the rights we have lost, and a festive way to talk about how the ideas of liberty protect those rights. Candy is a good addition for any trick or treaters, and of course, always invite them to sign your chapter sheet!
