Withdraw Consent!

A mere twenty-one percent of Americans believe that the US government has the consent of the governed. Twenty-one percent. One out of five Americans believe that the government has legitimacy. Absorb that for a moment. The oversized federal government has finally met its day of reckoning. Simply put, it's too big. But not too big to fail.

Three out of five find the government illegitimate. An overwhelming majority of Americans have rightfully denounced the empire. Despite anyone's stance on social contract theory, this clearly shows that a new government, if any, is needed, for whatever the reason may be.

What predicament does this put us, the American people, in? What choices do we now have before us? It is very unfortunate to have ever reached a point like this, but we are ultimately left with just two choices: to stand idle and continue to watch the federal government grow, or to withdraw consent. Both are dangerous but for far different reasons. Continuing to submit to the federal government will inevitably lead to an oppressive regime (or maybe it already has) that neither upholds nor admires individual liberty, free markets, and peace. Here, it is the oppressive regime that is the danger. Withdrawing consent, however, will ultimately lead to a much smaller state, if any at all. The benefits of a small, even nonexistent, state are plenty: individual liberty, free markets, and peace. The danger, if this path is to be taken, lies in the uncertainty of how to achieve these ends.

Violence? Civil disobedience? It is a very tricky question but one that is becoming so imminent that it can no longer be brushed aside. It MUST be addressed. At this point, collapse is inevitable. It is merely a matter of when.

Violence must be avoided at all costs and never, by any means, initiated. Force is only justified in self-defense, something 'the government is above.' This doesn't mean, however, that steps should not be made to prepare for the worst.

Civil disobedience is far superior to any monkey wrenching, sabotage, or guerilla warfare tactics. As a matter of fact, it would probably achieve results much more quickly and effectively. It is much harder to do, though. Civil disobedience that brings about real change requires vast numbers of people. A change in mindset is needed as well. Since the government now lacks legitimacy, its laws do as well. This is very difficult for many people to grasp.

Polls say and mean a whole lot. They tell people about anything from presidential approval to feelings about the latest healthcare bill. Judging from this crucial poll, people are fed up with the US government. They have overwhelmingly said that, "Enough is enough!"

However, talk is cheap. Who will really stand up to the empire? Who will practice civil disobedience? Who will really withdraw consent? Only time will tell, but to quote the great Dr. Paul, " Sounds like the revolution is alive and well!"

Force against government is self-defense. Everything government does (tax, regulation, etc.) is done by force; any resistance to it or to the people carrying it out is self-defense. So if someone felt the need to respond violently, they would be morally justified. I am neither doing this nor advocating it, but it is not immoral.

First of all, I really enjoyed this post. I liked how you pointed out discontent, your presumed reason for it and the choices that each of us will have to face. To all of that I agree and say job well done.

To the part I disagree with, polls. I can't help but think of Penn and Tellers BS show on Frank Lutz and Polls. Polls, like they(Penn and Teller) state are mearly ways to get people to answer a question with a planned response. For all we know this poll was taken at some libertarian convention, to which I would then say the numbers were too low, where you would expect to find these responses.

Again, I agree that government is too big and the choices of standing by or getting involved. The answers is simple drop the nanny state, do things on a voluntary bases, through free market and voluntary interactions amongst people. The problem is that means something different to everyone and that scares people.

Great write up, I just disagree with allowing polls to hold so much water. Keep up the great work guys.

Federal Framer: Which is why I left the whole thing up to interpretation. I, personally, do not follow the absolutist view of self-defense. If I did so, I would find nothing wrong with blasting away every government employee I come in contact with. I find that repugnant. It's all about what your view is.

Adam: This was at the bottom of the poll. All of Rasmussen's polls provide the methodology. "This national telephone survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted by Rasmussen Reports February 15-16, 2010. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence (see methodology)." To have numbers like this among likely voters is impressive.

This is a great time for civil disobediance, now before the new technologies that we all enjoy become soft chains that isolate us. I suggest that we all send a copy of some form of Declaration of Independence.

What benefits and legal rights are you giving up by withdrawing consent?

I did look into it and you can even take it as far as not paying taxes, but it seems too good to be true. If you refuse to be governed what all does that emply?

Will the trash still be colected?

Will my power be turned off?

Can I realy withhold a job and not pay taxes on my W-2?

Kurt said it very well. But Most who attempt to withdraw consent end up in prison. This is a decision you need to make with the lord. it is a major life changing event requiring a vast amount of self-dependence. This is something that takes alot of research and lots of time, most people who have done this and suceeded it took them years. Remember, This is a very serous decision, you are not going to eat at the table of the beast anymore. once you go you can never come back to feed. You also must know the legal system. like inside out know it. Because if your attortney calls you his client, you can go to prison. You must get rid of everything that connects you to civilization. marrage license, email, phone, SS#, Birth Cert, everything. This is not the way out of taxes. you must live under gods law, and once the legal system figures out that you know the system and you are searous, you will legally withdraw consent.

It is not something easy to do. The system wants to keep you as a slave so they can continue to abuse you. most go to prision. But is you are really searous, there are a few who have done it. One guy to get a hold of is Randy Yarbrough in colorado. Just thought i would throw that out there.
