The YAL group that hosted Ron Paul put in a lot of work. I was there and there were over 1500 people at the event. It was great.
Ron Paul!!! Try getting 1/3 of a college campus to come here an old man talk. Do protesters put advertisements under every door on campus, post thousands of fliers, send out 500 press releases, raise thousands of dollars in a matter of weeks, and send out 10,000+ emails?
There was no AstroTurf involved.
And Chapel Hill...they can keep Tyler Hansborough and their racists.
Jake B.
Read Atlas Shrugged before using such reason.
There is nothing on there that says Seattle's was a protest. The focus appears to be education and by so doing encouraged others to join the local tea party. Ron Paul draws a crowd himself. WFU did awesome work, but let's not assume Seattle didn't work hard. I don't know. Is anyone from that school reading this? Did you do posters, fliers, press releases and so on?
Well, I'm a little biased, but I think y'all should vote for the Youth for Western Civilization. =)
Definitely should vote for the Ron Paul event! It was the first time a YAL chapter hosted Ron on campus and was a monumental success! We need to show the right that Ron Paul is the leader of the party and NOT the neo-cons! Ron Paul and WFU YAL FTW!
If anything, the pro-life group probably had the most activism. Getting racist Tancredo on campus and getting a brick thrown at you isn't activism--it's what's going to happen if you bring a racist to campus. Between the YAL chapters I'm voting Seattle. Seattle sucks. It's full of Obama-loving hippies. The fact that a chapter actually exists there and is strong enough to do well with an event is testimony to them deserving this award...and it seems I'm not the only one who feels this way. They are dominating that poll and rightly so. Wake Forest, bringing Ron Paul to campus was probably the coolest thing ever, but Seattle needs all the help it can get so go YAL at the University of Washington!
"I’d say this tops the list of things we shouldn’t be arguing about. Both chapters worked really hard and both did the best they could for their respective events. Vote for whichever you want."
Agreed
This post needs a little more hype as well. I mean if YAL is going to get an actual physical award for the office, we need to spread this far and wide. I think a video is in order. BTW, that was a hell of an event at UNC but I'm not sure it was because group invited Tancredo. I watched several of the videos and the contradictions by both sides were unbelievable. I'd love to hear some YAL bloggers comment on the student actions on that campus, especially the fact that the right cheered when students were supposedly experiencing violent force by police but condemned the violence by the protestors.
Do we have a chapter at UNC?
I'd say this tops the list of things we shouldn't be arguing about. Both chapters worked really hard and both did the best they could for their respective events. Vote for whichever you want.
