Cool video.
After the recent court ruling in CA, and the electorate's right to alter the CA constitution to deprive same sex couples the right to marriage, I've been left wondering about whether we are a Republic or a Democratic Republic. It would seem to be the latter. If so, how do we ensure fundamental rights guaranteed in the central document (constitution) are never breached by repeal or amendments resulting from "mob-rule" at the ballot box? To my knowledge (which on the topic of politics is admittedly limited) all parts of the constitution are up for amendment if the government wanted to put it to a vote, including the bill of rights. In CA it didn't even require a super majority to make such an amendment.
