Town of King, N.C., enforcing curfew due to...snow.

Yep. You read that right. Due to the "emergency situation" being caused by the inclement weather, citizens of King are not allowed to be out of their homes between midnight and 5 a.m., or to engage in any purchase or consumption of alcohol. From local news station WXII12:

A state of emergency has been declared in King due to severe weather that started Friday morning.
There is a curfew in place for the duration of the state of emergency. Unless a person is a member of the King Police Department or the Emergency Management Program, everyone located within the city must be inside a house dwelling from midnight to 5 a.m.
There will be no sale, consumption, transportation or possession of alcoholic beverages, except for possession or consumption on a person's own residential premises. There will also be no sale or purchase of any type of firearm, ammunition, explosive or any possession of such items off a person's own premises.

How do I know that this is completely and utterly unnecessary? Because I go to Wake Forest University, which is in Winston-Salem, right down the road from King. Not only is the situation here not that serious at all, but the night that King decided that a curfew was absolutely necessary for the safety of its citizens, I was in downtown Winston-Salem hanging out with members of both Wake Forest Young Americans for Liberty and Salem College Young Americans for Liberty.

They only did it b/c of no power. Local buisnesses didn't have alarms due to lack of power. Since they only have like 2 cops, lol, it's the only way to enforce safety. And the ATF issue is b/c there are sum serious rednecks in King, lol.

Actually, King has the highest ratio of cops to citizens of any town in North Carolina.

...and the power wasn't out.

...and to say that they are "serious rednecks" is to frankly be an elitist (and assumes that the cops aren't also "sum serious rednecks")

...and to have an impulse to defend the actions of the government/police without doing a shred of research implies you've been brainwashed quite well.

What an embarrassingly stupid decision. One would expect something like this in California or New England, but in NC? Could it be that the only people left in America who are interested in public office are also mouth-breathers? The 'leadership' of King should probably start planning now for career change. Unless of course the people are foolish enough to re-elect such a bungling band of boobs.

I live in King. Im 26. And was kicked out of King Saturday night. Twice. The 2 officers were OK. And even said they didnt want to do it. All the businesses were shut down early. All the businesses that sold beer had to stop at 1pm. And I could not carry my firearm. Which i can carry concealed. Beeing that i live here, i can say the roads were dry. There was power in almost all places inside the City limits. The county made the State of Emerg. to get aid for the little money they never seem to have. But the City decided to enforce word for word the law. Unlike Walnut Cove who did nothing of the sort. Our problem with the Mayor is that he is not elected. He is appointed by the City Council. And year after year, the council keeps him there. Get new ones and they do the same. And to speak at a council meeting is even harder to get done. After putting your name down on a list to speak. you have to wait until the regular business in over. In far to many cases, the meeting runs out of time before anyone is allowed to give 2 minutes. Our little town is as corrupt as any big city, if not worse. There are few Police that are respected at all. It seems that most are got from the bottom of the barrel. There is so little crime they have nothing better to do then bother people. The majority of the people here are red hot. Inalienable rights my foot, when it comes to King. If it wasnt so serious it would make a good joke.

statute 14-288-7 denies carrying a weapon off your own premises during a state of emergency with exceptions stated in 14-269 which says a concealed carry permit holder is excused from that declaration.

The above statute shows the reason the City of King issued bans on Guns, Ammo, Beer, Transportation of these, and Curfews. This is also what the local government and police cheif give to excuse the use of them. But what they fail to also explain, is the use of the word "May" in the NC General Statute. The word "May" is used to indicate a certain measure of likelihood. Or the word "might" would also help define the word. This shows that there was a choice. Whether or not they knew that while reading it, or just went withe the first gut reaction, a bad choice was made in this situation.

Yeah, people from King were driving up from Pilot to buy their alcohol. The situation was quite ridiculous. Pilot Mountain was hit worse by the storm, and we were fine. Ahh Paternalism...

It's really weird policy to prohibit citizens who live in King from purchasing alcohol between midnight and 5 a.m. What's the meaning? For what? Working in <a href="http://www.ginault.com">Rolex Watches</a> , I was used to drinking a little for relaxing, not too much. I might feel uncomfortable and look my <a href="http://www.ginault.com/base-module-watches/base-module-1.html">Rolex Submariner</a> to notice the time when the prohibit was declared.

I think you have to put out a curfew in this situation. I am not sure why people are made about it. This had to be put in place.
