Britain's Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, recently announced a new intiative by the coalition government urging members of the public to report unneccessary laws. "We want to restore Britain’s traditions of freedom and fairness," he said, "and free our society of unnecessary laws and regulations – both for individuals and businesses."
Thus far, the coalition government successfully scrapped the biometric national identity card that was to be introduced to British citizens this year.

Interesting -- from what it sounds like, I'd say we could use something similar here. Hopefully it actually works.
Indeed, the ending of the ID card was a start, hopefully they start to move away from the Welfare State in a major way across the pond as well.
