The Heritage Foundation's New Song

The neoconservatives finally see the light. Pro-war, Pro-Homeland Security, Pro-Israel think tank The Heritage Foundation has partnered with the slightly more sensible Americans for Prosperity to bring the world stopspendingourfuture.org, which takes a stand for fiscal conservatism featuring this video: Unfortunately they don't quite have the causes of our current quandry absolutely right, casting blame solely on government spending to support foolish investors when the real culprit is the Federal Reserve via its arbitrary and coercive control of the money supply. Nonetheless, The Heritage Foundation and AFP prove instinctively that anyone with a thinking mind knows that stimulus packages and omnibus bills won't solve this problem.
My original post didn't say that the Heritage Foundation "solely cast blame on government spending to support foolish investors." I quoted the site on saying "as personal and public savings rates plummeted, we lived it up: buying, borrowing and gambling our future away." However, they also say "Politicians have spent beyond Americans' means; they have subsidized private citizens and companies to do the same," which is very true. In no way was this post meant to bash the Heritage Foundation. I may not agree with some of their foreign policy and national security stances, but it's nice to see that sensible government fiscal policy is something conservatives of all stripes can get behind. And there are many policies of The Foundation that I support, for example their stance on foreign aid. And I'll admit, calling The Heritage Foundation a neocon think tank was a bit far-fetched. I myself have friends that work there- that's how I heard about the site in the first place. Ah, you're right, Jeff, we should concentrate on our similarities and how we can work together to try to get Washington to stop or at least slow down this spending madness, and YAL isn't going to do that by alienating large groups of people. I tend to get a little carried away...but I'll try to be a little more gentle next time, and save my vitriol for the real culprits behind this whole financial mess :)

I would love to have a conversation on foreign policy with you one day, Jeff. I see The Heritage Foundation as advocating a very interventionist approach to foreign affairs and being generally supportive of the former President's foreign policies, and in my mind that makes them a neoconservative-leaning organization. But like I said, one of my friends interns there, and she's a great gal (with great taste in music). There are some things though that I could never see eye-to-eye with her on, but I'm not one to throw the baby out with the bath water. It's too small a world not to be respectful, even of views you disagree with, and that's a delicate balance that I'm still hammering out.
