The Glory of War

Classic scene from All Quiet on the Western Front. (1933) What's your favorite anti-war film?

Let me again make clear the hypocrisy of YAL in presenting themselves as anti-war and yet partnering with the American Enterprise Institute and Heritage Foundation.

Let me highlight some recent posts on the AEI blog:

Here's one from yesterday pushing for the US to give Georgia weapons (paid for with US tax-payer money).

Here's one against reduced military spending on the F22.

Here's one FIGHTING AGAINST Ron Paul's HR1207

Here's one by none other than Paul Wolfowitz!! with war-monger grumblings against North Korea.

Of course, I could go on and on and on and on.

What possible benefit could there be for YAL in this "strategic partnership"?

What exactly is the practical component of it, given that YAL and AEI (at least seemingly) have no overlapping ideological positions ?

If you delete my comments i'll just re-post them.

Again, here are some recent American Enterprise Institute (YAL Strategic Partner) blog posts

Curlz31,

I looked into whether or not your assertions about AEI and Heritage were correct.  In fact, YAL does not recieve any funding from these organizations.  If you would like to discuss this matter further, feel free to shoot me an email at bonnie.kristian@gmail.com.

In the mean time, thanks for visiting!

Well that's all well and good. But why then are they listed as "Strategic Partners"? What does that actually mean? What does the relationship consist of? Who made the initial contact between the two organisations?

Republicans of the Neocon ilk are trying to blur the line between themselves and Ron Paul now that they are in opposition, in order to get re-elected and continue with their agenda. When YAL associates themselves with AEI and Heritage, it only facilitates these aims.

I make these points out of concern. Please don't sell out and remove whatever relationship YAL has with these organisations. They are using you.

If the Heritage Foundation is right on an issue, (like a tax cut, for example) I see no reason not to solicit their support on that issue. Of course that doesn't mean we endorse any of their other views. Should Ron Paul not ask pro-war congressmen to back his HR 1207.

Regarding your assertion that Heritage "funds" YAL, I'm honestly amazed Bonnie was so polite. You need to stop making rude, factually incorrect accusations.

The American Enterprise Institute and the Heritage Foundation ARE NOT filled with impressionable, air-headed congressmen.

They are filled with firm ideologues who have a specific agenda, and that agenda has no overlap with Ron Paul. They are using you. They want the impressionable war-monger Republicans who are receptive to their nonsense to get re-elected so they can get back into the white house as speechwriters and advisors and continue the Neocon agenda.

I'm warning you out of concern. Legitimising them, as you have, degrades your position and blurs the line between libertarian-paleocons and Neocons. This is exactly what the Neocons need to get back in.

Curlz31,

I appreciate your concern and understand both the extent and limitations of the philosophical dissimilarities between YAL and these organizations.  Once again, if you are truly interested in this matter, I would be happy to discuss this with you by email.  For an constructive conversation, however, I would suggest that blog comments are hardly a convenient format, no?

My email is bonnie.kristian@gmail.com.  If I don't hear from you *by email*, I'll take it that your concerns are no longer pressing.

Best,

Bonnie Kristian

There are two ways to go about it. You can take a compass and draw a perfect circle and make two perfect eyes as neat as can be. Or you can do it freehand and have some fun with it. Like I did. Give it character.
