The Gay Marriage Loophole

@toqueboy: This site is filled with blog posts that cite scholarly articles written by award winning economists(see Bonnie Kristian's posts in association witht the Mises Institute). Not every blog is required to be necessarily educational. Sometimes it takes a bit of entertainment and poking fun at the establishment to keep young advocates of liberty motivated.

Since when was it right to force your religion onto other people? That's what bothers me most about this gay marriage ordeal. The Onion does it again--way to go!

If conservatives and leftists left this issue at the states' level they wouldn't have a hot button topic to get their constituents riled up, but if they did we would be better off. Those of us who do not want to recognise gay marriage, or get government out of the marriage issue entirely including licenses, could and those who want to grant a positive 'right' through government–though granting rights goes beyond government's basic functions–could as well. But this sums up the insanity of the debate, more government!

This is from the Onion-NOT A REAL NEWS SOURCE. I don't know if you meant this as a tongue in cheek, but there's alot of satire sites out there you have to watch out for, some apparent, some not so much. If you're representatives of the truth I would appreciate it if you either label this as fake fodder or take down the post altogether.

Wait, the Onion is not a real news source?! You mean the world I live in is really not as funny as I thought it was? Oh man, I need to go set down for a little while.

It's not about forcing religion on other people for me, it's about getting government out of the marriage issue entirely. I do not believe in licenses, civil marriage, justices of the peace et al. marrying people, in short no government involvement at all. Marriage is and always has been a religious issue, it should remain that way, the state should not stick its nose into something that is beyond its purview. Historically government involvement in marriage has been a pernicious influence, whether it was the Anglican church not recognising dissenters' marriages, or the goal of Bismarck implementing marriage licenses in Imperial Germany to undercut the Roman Catholics in the Kulturkampf, wherever the situation government doesn't do it for good reasons. As well Libertarians should be leery of anyone wanting to grant rights, like the 'right' to gay marriage, because it opens the door to further government intrusion into marriage. For myself it is a religious issue, not only because I don't condone gay marriage or homosexuality, but as well because I believe in Liberty from government influence. If people wish to start a religion, or change a sect in order to recognise gay marriage that is their problem, but government is not there to grant rights and then force everyone to recognise it as well.

this site confuses me. if you're really trying to create political change, why are you sourcing comedy web sites, main stream media articles, etc. there is very little on this blog that has taught me anything about your cause or why i should care more than i do. i actually came away thinking that ron paul's good work has fallen on deaf ears...or maybe just lazy ones.
