As the fall semester came to a close, the St. John's University-New York chapter decided to plan a Choose Charity day as our first official event. We choose the Ronald McDonald House of Manhattan to volunteer for a day.
The Ronald McDonald House provides a place for families with sick kids to stay when they have to travel away from home to receive the treatment they need. My chapter was impressed by the beauty of the lobby and the rooms; it looked like a nice hotel. It had all the amenities of a hotel with the comforts of home; there was a free pantry for the parents to get snacks for the kids and tons of toys and activities to keep the kids entertained. The staff was upbeat, friendly, and kind. We were impressed with the work that the Ronald McDonald House of Manhattan does.
In the morning we were hard at work vacuuming, dusting, and polishing furniture in the lobby and the dining room. In the afternoon we sorted presents that had been donated for the kids. We were happy to see that there were a ton of gifts!
Our chapter had a great time volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House and we look forward to returning in the future.
