School District Takes Gun Control to Whole New Level

Apparently, it's not enough to limit people's access to firearms. Now a school district in Lynn has decided to give the police carte blanche on anyone carrying "anything that could be used as a weapon." Just look at some of the quotes from this article:

Students could be arrested if they bring objects such as air guns, pellet guns, BB guns, fireworks, and even bats and clubs to school without a legitimate purpose...

The ordinance certainly gives us a little more power to say, Look there’s no reason for you to have weapons on you, period. If you do, there will be swift and severe consequences, he said...

We’re trying to be proactive, Coppinger said. We didn’t see an uptick in kids bringing weapons to school.

This seems absurd... so now we're teaching our kids that there is never any reason EVER to carry any weapon unless it has a better use. It's like it's not good enough to stomp on the Second Amendment with sideswiping legislation, now we're going to brainwash the next generation into thinking that the government will always be there to save you from bullies and people that might actually want to genuinely harm you. If we don't attack stuff like this it may not be long before nobody even remembers why we need a Second Amendment...

In prisons, nobody is allowed to have weapons. They don't even give them to the guards, so that the prisoners can't take them. But murder rates are still high. They make knives out of what's at hand, or they kill with their bare hands. Neither requires great strength or brains. Both require criminal intent.

Funny you should mention prisons. Our local school district likes to hire retired prison guards because they think the former guards make great security people. The guards think it's funny how similar the environment is to their former workplace.

Is it really healthy to raise children this way?

While I'm quick to defend the 2nd amendment, I can't see that there's a legitimate reason for kids to bring weapons to school.

Just because we have the right to defend ourselves doesn't mean that we ALWAYS have the right to bring weapons with us wherever we go. And even though I'm in favor of guns, I'm not in favor of kids having guns- unless they're supervised. Since you can't supervise that sort of thing in a public school, without risking a ton of liability insurance, I don't see any reason why kids should have weapons of any kind at school.

Therefore, I don't think this is truly a violation of the second amendment.

So can public schools!

Our children are being brainwashed. Homeschooling, the way it was done from the beginning of time down to less than 100 years ago, was heavily supervised. Children could learn to be self-reliant and use weapons.

The public school is a brainwashing tool. Can it just like the Fed.

I am not sure what part of 'shall not be infringed' you don't get.

Just because you think something is a good idea does not make it legit. Smoking, drinking and unprotected sex with a one night stand partner are all bad ideas, does the state have a legitimate role in banning those?

If something is potentially unsafe, does it mean we have no right to it?

Anything can be used as a weapon...

I guess part of my thought process is that we're basically educating our children to be dependent on the government to come and help them. Also, why does the school have to ARREST "violators" of this law? Is the school incapable of administering punishment? What I see this as a subtle way of creating a society of people dependent on the government who don't see ANY REASON to have any gun EVER.  It also means the government is stepping in between parents and their children as far as education about guns goes.

You don't have any reason to bring it to school, and it could be used as a weapon.

(The undisplayed subject of my previous post was:

"DON'T BRING YOUR BRAIN"

Whose idea was it to have posters include a subject that isn't displayed?)

This wouldn't be an issue if there were no public schools.

Yeah John, I completely agree. It's one thing for private schools to say no "dangerous items" on campus. It's an entirely different thing for a public school to make that same claim.
