Like most chapters throughout the entire country, Glendale Community College in Glendale, Arizona participated in Young Americans for Liberty's national activism project Free Markets 101. We began our efforts at the Spring Club Fair at GCC, attempting to recruit new members with the "Jenga-nomics" and "Rags to Riches" projects.

As was predicted, most students thought that the U.S. was the freest country economically, usually placing it in the top spot on the Rags to Riches map. Many students were also amused to see a giant Jenga game, and intrigued as to what it represented.

Following our recruitment efforts at the club fair, we successfully held an amazing event with U.S. Congressman David Schweikert (AZ-6), who talked about free market economics, as well as various other economic issues. Nearly 100 students attended the event, and many had the opportunity to ask the Congressman a question of their own about economics.

Both the student newspaper, as well as the local city paper in Glendale covered the meeting, and it was also announced in the Arizona Republic prior to the event.

Following his speech, Congressman Schweikert spoke about the importance of Young Americans for Liberty, and the key role that young people play in advancing the political discussion.
