Rain Couldn't Stop YAL at Ohio State

The Ohio State chapter of YAL spent months planning for the Student Involvement Fair on Monday Sept 19th. The weather had a different plan though. Storms forced the event from the quad into the student Union. Organizations were forced to share tables in the cramped halls, and there was no room for signs or stands.
 
This didn’t stop the OSU YAL chapter! Despite all the setbacks, the chapter was still able to break their record for the number of new sign ups.
 
 In four hours, the chapter collected 291 new sign ups!
 
They followed the basic rules of tabling to a tee:
  • They had free candy and goodies (but you had to sign up to get them)
  • They were in front of the table, catching people as they walked by
  • They used a generic pitch to get people’s attention, “Are you tired of the political circus?” which went with their custom brochures
  • They didn’t argue, debate, or keep pushing after the sell had been made
It was a perfect example of how well good technique can work. Check out their quick highlight video:

It looks like you guys had a very effective recruitment there in Ohio!  I used to attend Wittenberg University and have a bunch of friends in the region.  I have a proposal for you!

My name is Jesse Calhoun and I represent a band called the Ameros out of Albany, NY. We are currently working on booking a college tour for libertarian groups around the country and primarily the east coast.
