Our Sacred "Ally"

Why is Israel our ally? And why do their crimes, even against American citizens, go practically unnoticed?

Some of Israel's most friendly encounters with the US include:

  • The sinking of the USS Liberty that left 34 Americans dead and 171 wounded. Officially deemed an "accident," many of the survivors vehemently dispute this claim.
  • Their repeated spying on both government and corporate activities.
  • And now, the slaughter of an innocent, 19 year old American who was on a humanitarian aid mission.

But who does the American government stand up for? The Israelis of course! Joe Biden succinctly summarized American foreign policy in just a few words when asked about the Flotilla incident: "So, what's the big deal here?"

Succinct, laconic, and so very damned true. The conservative movement and Republicans in general seem hell bent on destroying any and all Jeffersonian ideals/policy. Notice how TJ got bucked from Texas school books? That really is no surprise considering the anti-federalists are hidden from any discourse on early America.

Entangling alliances indeed!

Yeah, the rein of terror on Gaza during the end of Bush's term stunned some people to silence, but now more and more are speaking out louder and louder. Today I got to read great pieces from both Glenn Greenwald and Pat Buchanan on the topic. When those two agree on something, there's something significant going on.

And ya gotta love the right-wing today that loves to say how out of touch DC is with Americans but somehow our statist socialist federal government can't help but be right on target with regards to the flotilla incident. Riiight.

So, is the sinking of the USS Liberty considered "blowback?"

Amazing how when radical Islamists attack (USS Cole), it is because of intervention and our fault. Yet, if its Isreal, the self-proclaimed "non-interventionists" can't wait to blame Isreal as agressors.

I'm not justifying any terrorist attacks, but radical Muslims typically give many reasons why they're attacking American/Western targets. They attack America and Americans because they resent what we're doing in their land. The radicals have a legitimate grievance, but how they carry out their 'remedy' for it is repugnant. Israel, on the other hand, is a stated and sworn ally of the US. They wouldn't be able to cite a reason for attacking the US at all.
