North Carolina Bans Rare Burgers?

Flavor: Now banned in the Tar Heel State.

We've all heard of government wanting to regulate our health care, the Internet, and what kind of light-bulbs we're allowed to put into our homes. As infuriating as those regulations can be, the state of North Carolina may have just one-upped them all: banning rare burgers.

According to North Carolina state law, restaurants are required to cook burgers until they reach an internal temperature of 155 degrees Fahrenheit, or as burger lovers call it, shoe-leather. The reasoning behind this ludicrous law is that 155 degrees is the temperature that dangerous bacteria like E. Coli die, but it also leads to a burger that's dry, unpleasant, and would be more useful as a hockey puck than as food. Most restaurants across the country put warnings on the bottom of their menus warning about the dangers of undercooked meat, yet people still order their burgers rare.

It is the choice of the customer to have his burger done the way he wants it, even raw if he so chooses (steak tartare anybody?). Call this law a war on fast-food or a war on meat, but either way, its nanny-statism gone crazy, and there isn't enough ketchup to make that go down easier.

The .GOV is WAY too much in our business. This type of thing is happening on so many fronts. Consider the Rawesome raid out in California. We-the-People have been indoctrined to believe that we'll all die if we drink raw milk. From birth this is drilled into our heads. The truth is that we've not had someone die from drinking raw milk in nearly 100 years! Contrast that with the tens of thousands of people snuffed out when taking prescription drugs (as directed) and you can see that there's a double standard.

People may think that this is gross, but I eat raw steak! That's right. Raw steak is easier to digest and you can eat more of it at one serving without getting a tummy ache. Most people here are going to react with disgust I guess. I told this to someone at one of the LA Fitness locations around me (I can go to them all and I can't remember which one) who said he wanted to get big and from the look on his face you'd think I had a horn growing out the top of my head.

Anyway, if i want to eat raw steak, the government should keeps its nose out. Next they'll be telling us we can't grow our own cantoloupes because of the recent lysteria outbreak being linked to cantoloupes.
