So yes, this is a really long comic. But it's also worth the full read, which is why I've put the whole thing on the main page.

I have to say I could not agree more and that Huxley was right --the ultimate control would be to get people to love their servitude. I see people every day that don't recognize they are slaves to themselves, only interested in what they feel that day, or what a beautiful butterfly just passed by their window.... I am horrified by the fact that in such desperate times as these, when we are at the make/break point of society as we know it, when our civil liberties are vanishing daily before our eyes -- that so many people are only interested in mindless TV shows like American Idol, or celebrity gossip, what coffee they are drinking or giving some mindless quote about peace and love - while occassionally giving lip service about what an amazing document the U.S. Consitutition is (though I doubt they've read it) then go back to twittering/myspacing or facebooking about...oh thats right..themselves. They are at exactly the place where the slave masters want them; self involved to the point of oblivion.
This post is a little long. But that book is one of my favorites, along with Neil Postman's "Teaching as a Subversive Activity" - my absolute favorite book.
Plus, the book itself is way better than this comic thing. And it's an easy 2-3 day read.
It's so true Bonnie. I'm really glad you posted this cartoon.
they were both right
It might be nioce to site the website of the original artist.

I got the comic as an isolated thing -- never saw the original website. Thanks, though!
Surely the Kafkaesque nightmare is more frightening still if we're talking dystopian visions. We are watched and monitored all the time, but no one knows why, just to "improve performance" for services we don't really want and seem to become worse as they require more and more time asking us questions so they can perform better in the future. Perhaps there is no malign force controlling things, just a blind stupidity.
