Have the terrorists won?

As many of you know, groups like Family Research Council, Concerned Women For America, American Values, the American Principles Project, the Capital Research Center, and others are boycotting this year's CPAC event because of the inclusion of GOProud as a partcipant.

But now CPAC is catching criticism for a new reason -- Muslims.  That's right -- the convenient catch-all boogeyman of radical Islam, eager to institute Sharia Law in America and get every woman into a spacesuit, has apparently taken over CPAC.  The terrorists, it seems, have won.  Raw Story reports:

The conservative columnist Frank Gaffney also criticized CPAC for inviting Americans for Tax Reform president Grover Norquist and former Bush staffer Suhail Khan, claiming the two men were part of a Muslim conspiracy to infiltrate the conservative community.

Despite Gaffney's concerns, a new movie titled "The Ground Zero Mosque: The Second Wave of the 911 Attacks" is set to premier at the conference. The film was produced by Stop Islamization of America (SIOA) and the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI).

That's right -- the "evil" Grover Norquist, who has been fighting against taxes for years, is really trying to dominate the world for Islam. Apparently being "against all tax increases as a matter of principle" doesn't cut the conservative mustard anymore, because he happens to believe in a different religion than Mr. Gaffney....oh wait, that's right, Norquist is actually a Methodist.

These charges against Norquist and CPAC are exactly the sort of things which give conservatives a bad image to the larger public.  Maybe eventually the right will relize that labeling this sort of rhetoric "compassionate conservatism" just doesn't work.

'Conservatives" are showing themselves to be fools. I'd tended to like Jim DeMint, but his boycott of CPAC over GOProud's presence is disgusting. A potential libertarian-progressive alliance, as displayed by Dr. Paul and Ralph Nader, is the only chance to save this country before we go broke and authoritarian. A new, more inclusive tea-party needs to form against corporatism, against war, and for liberty.

The media is perhaps the biggest barrier to success, as the talking heads stir up hatred between groups and focus on personalities rather than issues. Ron Paul has been steady in his message for tolerance- but this CPAC garbage makes all of us look like bigoted homophobes. Our desire for liberty must outweigh our distaste of alternative lifestyles!

While of course we should work with those we can on issues that we agree upon, i.e. DeMint being for a full audit of the Fed, we don't have to applaud people for everything they do. This is the fallacy of celebrity that wraps up most people in politics, the old "Well George Bush is conservative, he is against gay marriage, therefore since I'm a conservative I have to be against gay marriage." Luckily we have some like Dr. Paul who is able to hold what ever prejudices he might have aside, however few and far between they might be, to work for common goals. The minute Dr. Paul starts acting like this I will be the first one to cry foul, like everyone who truly stands for these principles should.

But to me, and I'm speaking as myself here, not a representative of YAL, this shows how dedicated to limited government these so called "conservatives" actually are. Last I knew sexual orientation has nothing to do with cutting taxes, fiscal responsiblity, and sound money. If they can't get past something as trivial as someones personal "choice" (and I use that word lightly since its pretty obvious that there really isn't a choice involved) which has no affect on anyone but the individual and those he chooses to be around then how can we ever expect to tackle the real problems that are plaguing our world. Whether it be GOPride or Muslims we should be looking to anyone and everyone to help tackle the biggest problem, tyrannical debt laden government leading our society off a cliff. So much for the Big Tent idea.
