Hardball Interview with Obama Townhall Gunman

Earlier today a New Hampshire resident carried a gun to a townhall meeting held by President Obama in his state.  Here's his interview on Hardball, where he holds his own admirably, defending his position well and warding off Matthews' unfounded but insistent insinuations of his predilections for violence and the "birther" movement.

In my opinion, it was bad judgment to bring a gun to a town hall. But to assume that a man who acted within the law by openly bearing arms was going to murder the president is ridiculous. What's most ironic is that many of these MSM types that have never touched a gun support "strategic airstrikes" that kill and maim foreign kids. They assume that all gun-carriers intend to murder someone, and that the "benevolent" state alone should possess all the firearms.

As we continue to gain momentum, expect more smears (racist, violent, etc) and fear-mongering against our movement. This is particularily difficult to handle because libertarians despise racism and violence, but it's coming nonetheless. As the smears pick up, we're going to need to support each other.

Matt, everyone carries in New Hampshire.  I have a friend in NH who attended this event, and of course he brought his gun.  He always open-carries, everywhere he goes. That's just how things are in New Hampshire.  He couldn't for the life of him figure out why the media decided to pick on this guy in particular.

The elitists in the media are of course appalled. This kind of thing never goes on in their safe, state-sanitized urban centers. I'm glad the local Sheriff had the horse sense to tell them to mind their own damn business, instead of caving and locking this guy up.  If these people are really this frightened to see citizens excercising their rights, they should just stay out of New Hampshire.

Peter, you make a good point. The culture is a lot different in MN where I'm from.

How dare this citizen bring a gun!!!  Barack Obama would never let his staff carry guns!!!  Except Secret Service.... and the Military... and the Police...... but not a mere civilian!!

Just because it is uncommon to openly carry a loaded gun doesn't mean it was wrong to do. The reporter in this video made an absolute ass of himself. People bring guns everywhere they go, it's just that most of the time they are concealed. He openly had one strapped around his leg, something that the anti-gun supporters should like more than concealed weapons...

This reporter would LOVE to take away our RIGHT to bare arms.  I feel he was disrespectful to the guy giving an interview.  This reporter would just LOVE to see something happen at a rally where true Americans gather to defend freedom.

Why is it that during the Bush years NONE of the vile things done to Bush in the public square were EVER showed to the public?  I remember when Bush haters came into my city and Bush was dressed like the devil, satan, a murderer, Hitler,  drug addict on a noose.  How come those people were NEVER called "political terrorists?"  And why is it, Obama is organizing ACORN recruits at:  www.mybarrackobama.com BUT TRUE moms, dads, students, and grandmothers & grandfathers are being called MOBS?  God help us all, the ONLY HOPE for America is A GREAT AWAKENING FROM ALMIGHTY GOD.   Once freedom is lost you will NEVER regain it.  Don't let it happen my fellow Americans stand up for the RIGHTS YOU ADORE!  Politicians are NOT the masters over us.  We the People ARE the government.  Come 2010 let us send a CLEAR message at the voting polls (if ACORN is not in place by then) and let these vile politicians KNOW WE THE PEOPLE voted them in and WE WILL VOTE THEM OUT.

Say NO to socialized, natioanlized medicine.

I loved how Chris Matthews had no idea that Abraham Lincoln had instituted the income tax during the War Between the States. Who's the one that didn't know their country's history? Does that make Mr. Matthews unpatriotic?

Woah, that was actually a cool interview. The fact that Matthews brought him on the show gets out the message - and at least Matthews asked some pertinent questions and let the guy answer many of them. I think this was great.

"In my opinion, it was bad judgment to bring a gun to a town hall. "

He was carrying it on private property, not at a town hall.

I wasn't aware it was private property, and it appears he had explicit permission from the property owner. That changes my perspective, obviously.

But uninformed as my words were, I didn't make an unlibertarian statement. I think whether you appreciate people  bearing arms is a personal issue, (I do in most situations) but acknowledging their right to do so is a necessarily libertarian one, in complying with the NAP.

I'm doing a post on gun control if you're interested in my views on this subject. Thanks for the necessarily critical comments!

It is always impracticle and "of bad judgement" to defend ones self against the state.  Annihilation, one thing the state excels at, reduces ones ability to affect change.

...I don't know about you all, but I am just thrilled to be watching a Revolution right now. I cannot explain how ecstatic I am to be involved in these events that will no doubt take up a substantial amount of class time in future history courses.

I have a friend from the UK, Alistair, who refuses to move back to Europe for only one reason. According to Al, the one thing that Americans have that is virtually absent in every other country is "hope". I believe that is why we will pull through all of this... despite all of the doom and gloom predictions of the U.S. from so many people.

I know that this had nothing to do with the interview, but I just wanted to share what was on my mind :-)

THIS MAN IS A TRUE PATRIOT AND WITHOUT MORE AMERICANS TO UNDERSTAND AND SUPPORT THE CONSTUTION AND OUR RIGHTS THE COUNTRY WILL FALL TO THIS SOCALIST ANTICHRIST WHO CALLS HIMSELF THE PRESIDENT

Nice job for the protester.  He proved 3 things, we have the freedom of speech, right to keep an bare arms, and that people kill people not guns kill people.  Peaceful protest with a great qoute from a founding father who is probably rolling in his grave on the Direction America has turn.
