The short version: The US military arrested a Canadian kid for throwing a grenade which killed a soldier and put him in Gitmo for seven years. He was 15 when he threw the grenade and is now 23. He is being tried as a child in military court for war crimes using evidence obtained — and here’s the key part — by an investigator who threatened to have him gang-raped to death if he didn’t talk.
If this is a war, then why is he being tried? Grenade throwing is normal battlefield activity, so in a real war he would just be another soldier doing soldier stuff. If this is not a war, why is he being tried in military court? Murder is dealt with capably by civilian judges, and guilty murderers are appropriately punished. And regardless of what this situation is, why the hell are we using evidence obtained by threatening to gang-rape a teenager to death, however guilty he may be?
First let’s get our story straight. Then let’s get our act together. Then let’s go after terrorists legally, fairly, and proportionately when we actually have some remotely respectable moral high ground. Because this is disgusting on every level and absolutely not justice in any sense of the word.

In addition to what you have mentioned in the above post, there were also no eye witnesses to Omar Khadr being the one who threw the grenade and the field report citing this incident was changed after its intitial filing. The original report indicated that the grenade was thrown by an enemy soldier/combatant who was ultimately killed in the battle, but it was later changed to state that Omar Khadr, the lone survivor of the fight, was the party responsible for throwing the grenade. If, I'm not mistaken he's been at Guantanamo for over 8 years and is the only detainee that has not been re-patriated to his home country. An Australian and I believe a couple of British citizens were returned to their home countries, but the Canadian government has outright refused to do anything to bring him back and have him tried in Canada. This is even after Canadian Supreme Court rulings that the federal government must do everything in its power to re-patriate him and have him tried on Canadian soil.
Yeah I don't understand why Canada hasn't gotten involved on his behalf simply because he's a citizen. The entire situation is ridiculous.
Go read the Geneva Convention and examine the articles of war. What the jihadi did was the opposite of "normal battlefield activity". Omar Kahdr was 1. a non-uniformed combatant 2. feigning death 3. fought after surrender. Any one of these earns an automatic and completely legal death sentence on the battlefield. Those facts are uncontested by him and everyone else involved in this case, even now.
He killed a doctor that was trying to help him and you're worried that someone may have threatened him? Are you insane?
You want some moral clarity? Read the Koran. Learn what Omar Khadr believes in and when you do, you might understand why this world will be better when he, and all his jihadi comrades are dead and Islam goes the way of Thuggee, and the beliefs of the Aztecs.
