Chris Matthews Draws Parallel between Supporters of State's Rights and Slavery

How far will Chris Matthews go to undermine opposition to the prez he has a not-so-subtle crush on? Yesterday, he implied Deb Medina was racist because she cited the all-American principles of interposition and nullification as a way of pushing back against big government.

Matthews quoted Martin Luther King, in the context of King's opposition to politicians' efforts to uphold forced segregation in the 1960's. To the libertarian, King's argument in this instance was correct. Forced segregation is aggression, and any attempt -- by nullification or not -- to uphold it is unlibertarian.

Yet context doesn't matter for Matthews. He uses King's statement to imply that Medina would've been among those fighting for state-mandated segregation. This is because like some 60's segregationists -- though for completely unrelated reasons -- she supports nullification.

But Matthews should think twice before advancing such a ridiculous standard. Nullification is a tool, that can be used for good or bad things. Saying the pro-nullification Medina is a racist because this tool has been used for racist purposes is like saying people who advocate driving cars are murderers because people have used cars to commit murder in the past.

Consistently applying Matthews' standard, he's comparable to people who advocated the kidnapping of escaped slaves in the 1850's. After all, Matthews opposes nullification but nullification saved many ex-slaves from being kidnapped under the Fugitive Slave Acts of the 1850's.

That video is just a leftist circle jerk.

This really makes me angry, as I am a Texan myself. These idiots wouldn't be complaining and talking smack about Medina or any other conservative candidate if they were all for Obama's socialist policies; Chris Matthews disgusts me.

White people who are so trigger happy playing the 3rd party race card like these ones are the worst type of racists. Notice how they don't even mention any context to MLKs quote. They somehow imply that the words "nullification and interposition" can only be used in a racial context. WTF? With no explanation? And who is the target of these racist comments? They don't even need to explain, of course, because we have a black president now! Just make the reference,  invoke Dr. King, make some jokes and giggle. HOW RACIST!

Obviously the talk of nullification and interposition in MLKs quote was in a completely different, maybe even opposite, context. The Federal gov't DOES have some responsibilities which it would NOT be right to use nullification and interposition against, and those are described in the Constitution. You know, INDIVIDUAL freedom! THAT is what MLK was talking about!

Obviously Debra isn't trying to nullify civil rights. For these people to throw around their 'obviously she's a racist' attitude, it completely exposes their utterly racist thought patterns. Using MLK and the civil rights movement in such a shallow way to bolster their standing with each other on 'the left', and tear down Liberty is disgusting. Throw in some completely untrue assumptions like 'not many colored people in those crowds-- hyuk hyuk' and the Rockefeller Channel audience eats it up.

2:56, gotta love Matthews' expulsion of ignorance on the bill of rights, implying that the 10th amendment isn't constitutional...

...sometimes I swear MSNBC goes to the point of propaganda.

(Yes Fox does it too)

MSNBC has become total propaganda for progressives and for the Obama administration.  I never thought it could get worse than Fox News during the Bush administration, but MSNBC is giving them a run for their money - if not surpassing them.  I think what gets me the most is how people on MSNBC like Olbermann and Matthews bash Fox for its lack of objectivity (which is true) but then engage in the same thing with a different ideological spin.

If you carry this out in the other direction, anyone in this country that supports gun control by definition supports genocide, because Hitler used gun control in Weimar Germany. It's so ridiculous that these liberal hacks imagine that the Constitution was supposed to end all of society's problems, rather than be designed to strictly limit the ability of the federal government to create problems. The Constitution is specifically designed to protect America from its government.

Spooner likes to mention that the Constitution is either impotent or insufficient, but the real problem isn't the piece of paper, it's the people reading it.

Very well put.

Most of the mainstream media is propaganda. Only things worth reading in the morning tabloid is the obits and the voice of the people. The voice of the people cannot be trusted either because what a person writes is not what the paper publishes.
