THE CANDIDATEName: Rep. David Schweikert Age: 50 Hometown: Fountain Hills, AZ Family: David and his wife, Joyce, have two cats and a dog named Charlie. Personal Biography: David Schweikert is a successful real estate business owner who graduated from Scottsdale Community College with an A.A., as well as from Arizona State University with a B.S. degree and an M.B.A. He and his wife, Joyce, attend Saint Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Political Biography: Schweikert entered politics in 1989, when he was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives. He served on the Arizona State Board of Equalization from 1995 to 2003, which deals with property assessment, and acted as the treasurer of Maricopa County from 2004 to 2006. Currently, Schweikert is a Republican member of the U.S. House, representing Arizona’s 5th Congressional District; however, heavy redistricting has caused Schweikert to seek election in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District. Schweikert is in a unique position in his primary race thanks to recent redistricting. There is technically no incumbent in the 6th District, but Schweikert currently holds the congressional seat in Arizona’s 5th Congressional District, and his primary opponent, Ben Quayle, currently holds the congressional seat in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District.
