Family: Thomas is married to his high school sweetheart, Rhonda. They have four children.
Personal Biography: An inventor and entrepreneur, Thomas Massie earned two degrees in the field of engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is the founder of SensAble Technologies, Inc., through which he has raised over $32 million, employed 70 people, and obtained 24 patents to increase computer usability.
Political Biography: Massie was elected Lewis County Judge Executive in 2010 (the equivalent of a countywide mayor). In that role, he successfully eliminated enough wasteful government spending to provide his salary for the first three years. On January 10, 2012, Massie announced his bid for U.S. Congress to represent Kenutcky’s 4th Congressional District, where he is determined to bring his conservative record to the federal level, eliminating wasteful government spending and limiting government intrusion into the lives of the American people.
The District: The 4th Congressional District is located in northern Kentucky and includes the counties of Boone, Kenton, and Campbell. This is an open seat as the result of Geoff Davis's (R) retirement. The District heavily favors Republicans, so the primary winner will likely win the House seat in November. The 2011 Partisan Voter Index (PVI) for the 4th District is R+14, which means a Republican is likely to gain 14% more votes than a Democrat as compared to the nation as a whole. The PVI measures how strongly a specific congressional district favors one political party. Redistricting, as a result of the 2010 Census, will likely increase this PVI rating even more.
