General Election: November 6, 2012
The District: With the nod from the Republican Party, Hinckley now faces the Democratic incumbent, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse. The one-term Senator managed to defeat his Republican opponent in 2006 by a seven-point margin. Now facing a challenge from Hinckley, the gap between the incumbent and challenger has lessened.
