Name:  Barry Hinckley
Age:  46

Hometown:  Newport, RI

Personal Biography:  Barry Hinckley is a successful business owner of a software company, which now employs over 150 people and has earned him a spot in the Boston Business Journal's "40 under 40". Hinckley received his B.A. degree from the University of Colorado and resides in Newport, RI with his family. His ancestor, Col. James Barrett, commanded the regiment of Minutemen at Concord and is credited with firing one of the first shots at the advancing British during the Revolutionary War.

Political Biography:  Hinckley is a true political outsider, now motivated by Washington's current spending levels and excessive business regulations to run against the career politician, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D) for Rhode Island's U.S. Senate seat.

Primary Election:  September 11, 2012

General Election:  November 6, 2012

The District:  With the nod from the Republican Party, Hinckley now faces the Democratic incumbent, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse. The one-term Senator managed to defeat his Republican opponent in 2006 by a seven-point margin. Now facing a challenge from Hinckley, the gap between the incumbent and challenger has lessened. While the state typically swings toward the Democrat, Sen. Whitehouse's lead is largely attributed to name recognition.
